Need a Lift? How I Recharge My Batteries...

Savoring the Summer- Relaxing and Recharging

Dear <<First Name>> ,
Have you been taking care of YOU?  I hope this finds you taking time to savor everything that summer has to offer… Flowers, family, and a good dose of fun.

I pressed pause on teaching this summer. Do you find it hard to stop? I don't know about you, but it seems like my train gets rolling down the hill and before I know it I'm  feeling out of control

That happened earlier this year.. I was teaching a lot, painting commissions, taking care of my health and my family's health...all while building a house.  Yup…it felt like a lot!

I have a habit of filling my cup pretty full. After some reflection I concluded that the only person who could take care of me was...
wait for it...
ME!

It felt like time to recharge my batteries. Sometimes that means disappointing people. That is always the hardest part for me.  But if I don't recognize my limits, then nobody else will either...Simple but hard.

Can you relate?

My daughters are now raising families. I see through their eyes the many demands of balancing family life with other aspects of life.  It's difficult.  I have so much compassion for them. I often find myself saying: “Make sure to take care of yourself while you take care of everyone else.”

When I was raising my family, I used to do self-care by scheduling “sabbaticals” for myself. If I stayed home there was no rest for me there. So, I would scoot away for a week to spend time with friends (after making childcare and carpool arrangements of course)!

Those moments when I stepped away allowed me to be free and maybe BE ME for just a little while.  It was magic! And the magic always seemed to return home with me...sparking joy into everything I did.

Bottom line: Taking care of yourself allows you to take better care of those who depend on you.

We need to periodically refill our tanks, right? Especially if we want to be generous loving humans.  Somehow we have to find a way to refresh ourselves and our souls .

As I got older my sabbaticals turned into weeks spent enjoying myself painting in watercolor workshops.  I would go to a workshop and return refreshed, recharged, and inspired

That continues to be my experience even now. I paint almost every day, but there is something special about the immersion that happens in a workshop. I truly believe it’s the best gift any artist can give themselves.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, then join me for this upcoming workshop!!

There’s still room in Janet Rogers’ Upcoming Flowers, Landscape, Faces and Figures workshop. I encourage you to think about giving yourself that gift! I predict that you’ll return home relaxed, recharged, and inspired!

In the meantime, let me know how you recharge your batteries...what is it you do?
I'd love to hear from you!

Janet Rogers paintings portray all the spontaneity and magic that only watercolor is capable of creating.

This week long course will feature a variety of themes including florals, landscape, portraits and the figure. Her warm enthusiastic, hands-on instruction will inspire you to paint with more confidence and find your own artistic style.

  • With fresh flowers adorning every table, her lessons will focus on floral subjects, portraits and figures. Every day we will begin with a demonstration followed by individual help.
  • Sunday November 6 at 4pm there will be the opportunity to set up your table and take part in an informal Meet and Greet with light refreshments.
  • Your table will be yours for the week with access before and after class time.
  • Classes will take place from 9 am-4pm Monday through Friday.
  • All students will have individual 6 ft. tables to spread out and paint.

Our classroom is oceanfront, providing ocean views and natural light as you paint. The oceanfront setting will inspire and soothe, and allow for refreshing walks on the beach. Some of our favorite local restaurants are within walking distance and Starbucks is on site.

  • Social Opportunities: 2 organized evenings of optional dinners, and a meet and greet on the Sunday evening preceding our workshop. A list of favorite local restaurants will be provided.

Hotel accommodations and meals are not included. If you wish to book your stay at the Grande Cayman Resort, special discount codes will be sent to you upon registration.
