Idaho Feeling the Manufacturing Buzz

Though TechHelp's university-based staff and student employees work year-round, we feel a bump in energy and urgency in September when campuses come alive with students, staff, and faculty ramping up for the new academic year.

Boise-based Micron added to this year's buzz by announcing that it would invest approximately $15 billion to construct a 600,000-square-foot fab for leading-edge memory manufacturing in the City of Trees. It is estimated that Micron's investment will create about 2,000 direct jobs at Micron and 15,000 indirect jobs, including suppliers, contractors, and others.
Above, Max Mathews and Jessica Lambert of the NPD Lab at Boise State staffed a booth at the Fall 2022 College of Engineering Connections Fair. As part of the studio\Blu family at Boise State, TechHelp hires top student talent to work on client projects. We'd like to think that TechHelp and our partners are creating the skilled knowledge workers and innovation environment that make Boise an attractive place for Micron to continue growing.

MFG Day 2022 on Friday, October 7 Kicks Off MFG Month

MFG Day Kicks Off a Month of Activities
Idaho Manufacturers Invited to Participate

MFG Day is the biggest annual opportunity for U.S. manufacturers to inspire the next generation to start careers in modern manufacturing.  A series of focused events to promote manufacturing begin on the first Friday of October and continue throughout the rest of the month. TechHelp submitted Boise Entrepreneur Week on Oct 24-28 as an Idaho MFG Day event since BEW plays a tremendous role in helping entrepreneurs launch new product ideas.

MFG Day asks Idaho manufacturers and educational institutions to show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by hosting an event and opening their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders. As manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech, and high-paying jobs over the next decade, MFG Day empowers organizations to come together to address their collective challenges to help their communities and future generations thrive.

Maria Lopez of Iron Pine LLC worked with TechHelp and studio\Blu at Boise State to design, prototype, build and sell axes made in the shape of Idaho.

Iron Pine's Idaho Axe Makes the Cut

Maria Lopez, CEO of Idaho’s Iron Pine LLC, has an eye for detail and design. She noticed that the state of Idaho was shaped just like an axe; thin at the top and broad at the bottom.  The shape stuck with Maria, who leads a brand that celebrates Idaho Life with unique Modern Idaho-Inspired designs inspired by the Idaho Outdoors, history, culture, and art. An axe in the shape of Idaho looked like a branding bull’s eye to Maria.

In Maria's Words

"I'm always looking to make connections with students so I was thrilled to work with NPD at Boise State. I was impressed with the speed and quality of the work done by the students."

Maria Lopez, CEO - Iron Pine LLC

Maria connected with the New Product Development Lab (NPD) at Boise State to see if she could bring her Idaho-shaped axe idea to life. Led by Lab Manager Grey Beaudry, the NPD team and extended studio\Blu team sprang into action across several fronts including:

  • Product Design
  • Market Research
  • Packaging
  • Graphic Design
  • Supply Chain Issues
