What's up this week with
Believers On Mountain Bikes (BOMB)

Weekly Update

Didn't hear a report from last week's ride at Floyd Hill.  Several of us participated in the 110mile Triple Bypass road ride from Evergreen to Vail on Saturday (picture).  Great to be out on a bike in the Colorado mountains.

Coming Up:
  • Three Sisters this Thurs from the Evergreen Lake house.  5-mile descent!
  • This Thursday we are gathering after the ride for Hamburgers at Mike G.'s house
  • Still plenty of beds available for the Moab trip Sept 15-18, finalizing the payments for housing in the next week.  The best way to RSVP is on the FaceBook event.
Devotional
The Breck Epic is over until next year.  It was a great experience.  A time to reflect on God, turn my brain off, and ride a mountain bike.  I loved every minute of it.  For this week, I thought I would share the last three Bible verses that my family gave me to encourage me during the race.

1) “I pray that out of His glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his spirit in your inner being.”  Ephesians 3:16

This verse is all about Paul praying that the Holy Spirit may grow inside the Ephesians, that they come to know God and how much God loves them and as it grows, that it pours out of them.  Not giving me physical strength to ride a bike, but spiritual strength and wisdom to grow my faith in King Jesus.

2) “So we’re not giving up.  How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without His upholding Grace.”  2 Corinthians 4:16

This verse came on Day 4 which would have been an easy stage except that stage 3 (2nd hardest) got moved to Day 4.  Literally, for many, it probably did look like things were falling apart.  This stage went over the Continental Divide twice (French Pass and Georgia Pass) then descended a very technical section of the Colorado Trail (around 6 clavicles broken on that descent), then climbed back to the top of Georgia Pass (but didn’t go over it), to descend.  It was the day that claimed 40+ miles and 7400 vertical.  So, for many, things looked like they were falling apart on the outside.  For many of us in life, it often looks that way.  However, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and allow room in our life for the Holy Spirit to grow inside of us, it makes us new and ultimately starts changing how we look on the outside too!

3) “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith!”  2 Timothy 4:7

I love this verse.  It is similar to Hebrews.  It isn’t about finishing the Breck Epic.  It is all about keeping the faith to the end - no matter what.  This was a letter from Paul to Timothy.  I suspect it was toward the end of Paul’s ministry.  He had endured many hardships, but kept the faith to the end despite all the persecution and hardship.  He encouraged Timothy to do the same - fight the fight, remain faithful to the Lord, spread the word, and keep the faith!  It is a reminder that Jesus is King.  We are living in his kingdom that is already, but not yet, here on earth.  Remain faithful to Him no matter what comes our way.

All of the verses my family gave me were amazing verses to reflect on.  They aren’t about giving me strength to finish the Breck Epic, but to meditate on to keep the faith and the right focus no matter what.  For example, if I had a mechanical, or any other issue - it is a worldly thing, show up in a Godly way - keep the faith!
