     It's time to be outside! Pack the car and get one last trip in for Labor Day weekend in Alabama's Black Belt. There's no shortage of things to do here - from outdoor activities, to sleeping under the stars, to one-of-a-kind local eats.

Congratulations, Ryker Ingram!

Congratulations to the winner of our Best Fish Photo Contest, Ryker Ingram from Pike County! This year's contest brought some tough competition and we were excited to see entries across all 23 Black Belt counties! Thank you to everyone who voted and to our contest sponsors, Alabama State Parks and Tony Adams of Gone Fishing with Tony. As part of the prize package, Ryker and his family will receive a two-night stay at Lakepoint State Park and a guided fishing trip with Gone Fishing with Tony. Congratulations!

Youth Dove Hunts

Youth dove hunts are coming up this month! All Black Belt Counties are located in the North Zone. Click here to check the dates for your county and register your hunt. Good luck!

SOA Hunt Registration Begins Sept 1

Registration for hunts on Alabama's Special Opportunity Areas (SOAs) opens on Sept. 1. The program is offered through the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) in an effort to provide hunters with unique hunting opportunities. The program offers a limited number of slots for successful permit holders and their guest(s) to hunt a dedicated 300- to 400-acre location for a two to four-day hunt. Summer's Bounty - Farmers Markets

The Black Belt is full of farmers markets where you can enjoy the bounty of the summer. From the Northport Farmers Market in Tuscaloosa County to Orrville Farmers Market in Dallas County to the Macon County Farmers Market, there is no shortage of places to shop for the best locally grown fruits and veggies. The history of the Black Belt's farmers markets is a long one - just take a look at The Montgomery Curb Market celebrating 95 years of business! Stop and Smell the Flowers - Circle of Colors Farm

We invite you to stop and smell the flowers in Notasulga - and take some home with you while you're there! Circles of Colors  is open to the public and has over 3 acres of flower picking. The farm is owned by Alice and David Kloss, who decided to share their property with other nature lovers earlier this year. To read more of their story, click here.

Black Belt Mural Trail: Eddie Kendricks

Our Black Belt Mural Trail is open! The Black Belt has over 100 murals showcasing the beauty and history of our region. Take this mural of Eddie Kendricks, the first lead tenor for The Temptations. Kendricks is a Black Belt native born in 1939 in Union Springs, where this mural is located. The Temptations went on to sing hits like "My Girl" and "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" and Kendricks also had a successful solo career. Both were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and this mural was created in his honor in 2019 in Bullock County.

Arts and Antiques: Gallery 905 in Selma

Interested in unique, local art that's one of a kind? Gallery 905 is the stop for you! Located in Selma, the gallery features work from local artists in the area as well as others located across Alabama. From paintings to pottery, you can find it at Gallery 905. 

Arts and Antiques: Eufaula Hardware Co

For our antique fans, we recommend a trip to Eufaula Hardware Co! The store offers unique furniture pieces, vintage clothing, and jewelry that you can't find anywhere else. If you want something antique or vintage, this is the place to be. 

Take the Scenic Route

     Sometimes the best views are found on the scenic route, and the Black Belt is no different. If you enjoy capturing the beauty of nature, this is the place to be.
