What does retention look like at a teacher-powered school?

Tell us about yours.

Teacher retention was a challenge pre-pandemic. Now it’s a crisis. This summer we began a survey of teacher-powered schools—to learn what impact being teacher-powered has on teacher retention.

We urge you to participate or forward this email to a colleague who should. The survey only takes 10 minutes to complete.

We also invite teacher-powered educators for a stay/exit interview (20-30 min) to talk about your experiences, specifically why you decided to stay or leave your teacher-powered site.

Key information:
  • Only one survey should be submitted per school site
  • Respondent can be any educator at the site who knows how many teachers left the school over the last 5 years; ideally someone personally familiar with the departed teachers
  • We ask for data starting in the 2017-2018 school year
  • If you don't know the answer to a question, you can skip it
  • Responses are not anonymous, but will be kept confidential within our research team

It’s time to rethink professional development

What if we started by listening to young people and educators—fueling ideas for change and inspiring new ideas?

The Human-Centered Schools Network offers workshop-centered professional development experiences for students, educators, and administrators. They provide resources to embrace human-centered learning—through research-backed practices that increase motivation and engagement, and prioritize social-emotional learning.

The best learning outcomes happen when educators have time to plan and collaborate on their own terms. And by listening to students first, we can build lasting change.
