43rd Annual Retreat at Foothills Camp
Caribbean Association of Adventists in Alberta (CAAA) September 2-4, 2022
The Caribbean Association of Adventists in Alberta (CAAA) aims to foster, maintain and promote the cultural characteristics of Caribbean people while adhering to the principles of the Seventh-day Adventist church. We welcome people of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to our annual Family Retreat, as well as other activities hosted during the year, such as the Gospel concert and Business Extravaganza.
The 2021-2022 school year has been fantastic for the students and staff at South Side Christian School. From adding new members to our school family, going on field trips, responsibly scaling back COVID-19 measures, and holding various fundraisers, SSCS has had a busy but great year.
We’re halfway in August, and we're sure there were lots of programs and activities that happened in your church since March this year. We’d like to encourage you to share your story with us by sending an article with some pictures to be published on the Alberta Adventist News magazine (September Issue). Please make sure to share your stories before August 30, 2022
Julieta is a survivor of Tropical Storm Ana, which ripped through Mozambique in January. “The cyclone landfall was really challenging,” Julieta shares. “We had to run away looking for safe places as ‘crazy’ people.”
The deadly storm destroyed homes and flooded crops. Families like Julieta’s, who rely on their crops to survive, now face hunger and the daunting task of rebuilding their lives.
ADRA, in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, recently began a climate-smart project in Mozambique, of which Julieta is a part. The project looks at the current realities and challenges of climate, hunger, and gender equality and addresses each to make a lasting difference. Read how this project impacts Julieta and her family.
How much is an education worth to you? Would you defy your family to go to school? Would you go against the grain of social expectations to achieve your dream?
Education is a proven way to break the cycle of poverty and the perpetuation of injustice. Through the BRIGHT project, ADRA has partnered with communities in Niger, Sudan, and Myanmar to make education more accessible to children. BRIGHT is changing the perceptions of education’s value, thus ensuring more children – especially girls – go to school. It is also building teachers’ capacity and offering support to schools.
