Leveraging the Power of Text Sets for Culturally Relevant Instruction
Have you ever looked at the topics and texts in your literacy curriculum and felt like something was missing? Text sets are intentionally grouped sets of texts and media resources focused on a specific topic…and a research-based way to build knowledge and vocabulary through a volume of reading! This new collection of text sets intentionally elevates culturally relevant content and pedagogy to support multiple perspectives, connect with students, build critical consciousness, and humanize literacy instruction. You might use a culturally relevant text set to fill a gap in relevance, perspectives or representation in your instructional materials; center student interests; or enhance an existing unit.
Below are some opportunities to explore these resources with colleagues or on your own.
