Strolling Into September with
Makers and Music

Come out for a day of fun and support our makers at the West Ponce Music Stroll!

West Ponce businesses open their patios and parking lots, transforming them into stages for a day of free live music and fun for the fourth annual West Ponce Music Stroll on September 24. Bands will play at businesses along West Ponce de Leon Avenue throughout the day. In the evening, a large stage outside The Marlay will host three bands to culminate the day.  The event is free and family friendly!

The day kicks off with the second annual 5K run and 1 mile dog walk hosted by Fleet Feet. There will be an artists market with local makers selling products, a creative showcase of chalk artists, and scheduled yoga and fitness classes throughout the morning hosted by Clarity Fitness.

The Music Stroll takes place 8 am to 9 pm along West Ponce de Leon Avenue. Proceeds benefit the all-ages non-profit makerspace Decatur Makers.

Schedule of Events

Community Outreach

Girls Maker Club met in August to create rad t-shirts using the bleach dying technique.  In addition, they made beautiful cyanotype prints on fabric.

Girls Maker Club is a free event for all middle school aged girls.  Sign up for our next event on September 11!

Amazing maker and artist Corinne volunteered on the project and helped lead the club to some truly breathtaking results!
Thank you Corinne!

Decatur Makers is lucky to have such a strong and gifted volunteer base.  If you would like to join our volunteer crew, let us know!

Staff Announcement

Two new staff members joined us in August!

Makerspace Manager James Vincent III will support the makerspace by focusing on facilities and equipment management, training, and safety.

Our new team members will work closely with the membership, volunteers, and the larger Atlanta community to get more value from using the space, as well as being ambassadors of our diverse, inclusive, and welcoming organization.
Membership and Volunteer Manager Lorraine Kowalski will support Decatur Makers by overseeing certain organizational aspects of the membership experience, volunteer structure, and the scheduling and advertising of classes and events.
What We're Making

Inspired by the piece "Fragile Future 3.13" by studio DRIFT featured at the High Museum, one of our creative makers got to work researching how to embed dandelions in resin.  The answer: hairspray!

Employing her interest in resin and light, working knowledge of solar lighting, and ingenuity, Cindy cast these wonderful orbs and then added color changing lights to create a thoughtful exhibit of her own.
