Update

Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to Spring everyone! While it's still very cool in our area, there are definitely signs of the changing season. We hope that the continuing wet weather isn't causing anyone too much grief, if you are seeing significant problems from creek or gully erosion please reach out to your local Landcare group or facilitators so we can try and help.

Now is also the time to start thinking about ordering tubestock for any planting next year, and maybe with another La Nina on the table it is a good time to consider investments like tanks or looking into off-stream watering to protect dam and creek banks. As we all know, in Australia you're either in a drought, recovering from a drought, or you should be getting ready for the next drought!

There are lots of different Landcare activities on the calendar before the end of the year, and we hope to see you at an event or workshop soon!

Feature Articles

National Landcare Conference

I had the great pleasure of attending this years National Landcare Conference in Sydney near the end of August. It was fantastic to be there in-person with hundreds of other Landcare representatives, and it was also great to hear that hundreds more joined by watching online.
If you didn't have a chance to tune in to the conference as it ran, don't worry as all the recordings can be found here on Landcare Australia's Landcarer website. I'd highly recommend watching the recording of Keynote Speaker Professor Mark Howden and the plenary session recording of Dr Ian Creswell. If you have a chance, definitely have a browse of the stream sessions and I'd also recommend the Cultural Landcare Management Panel.

Cultural Burning

Following the recent extreme bush fires across the country there has been renewed interest in aboriginal cultural burning practices, the following two videos were produced locally and are very relevant to our area. Please let your local Facilitator know if your Landcare group would like to learn more about cultural burning.

Bitja Wokka (Fire Country)
This excellent short video was inspired by the knowledge shared from the ancient culture of the Bpangerang people. It was recorded on the ancestral lands of the Bpangerang, Yorta Yorta, Gunaikurnai and Taungurung peoples. View here.

Collaborating with Fire for Community and Land Management
This video brings together highlights and reflections of a four-year project between Wooragee Landcare and Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation.
At 12 minutes long, this video requires a bit more of a commitment to sit down and watch, but it is a highly recommended overview of this important practice. Collaborating with fire for community and land management - YouTube
