Can you help? Please?

The Harvest Lunch is our church's biggest fundraiser for the year and helps us to keep the building open and heated and the churchyard in good condition all year. Can you help us make the Harvest Lunch another great success so we can "keep the lights on"?
  • Do you have something of significant value we could include in the auction perhaps? or a more modest contribution to the raffle? Drop us a line if you can help.
  • We could do with some practical help in putting up the marquee and setting out the tables and chairs etc. 4.00pm Friday 9th at Easton Hall if you can please.
  • Finally, does anyone have a wheelchair that they no longer need? We need one for the church to help those who are less able to access it.

Please contact Sue Hunt, Emma Hanson, or me, Tim Nicol tim@mihcentre.co.uk  if you can help with the above.

Many thanks in advance.

Are you new to the village and wanting to meet new people and get involved in village events?

We are looking for a small number of volunteers to join our management committee.  We meet about six times a year and are responsible for the day to day management of the village hall charity.  Some of us take on additional responsibilities that are not onerous but allow us to work together and make decisions in the best interest of the village and the hall.

We would love to hear from you.  If you are interested or would like to know more then please email Chris Briers on chris@eothvillagehall.co.uk
There’s a new gardener in town

Hello Everyone,

Amy Lydon has plucked up the courage to leave her full-time job to begin a new career in gardening.  I first met her about five years ago when she was employed at Rasell's Nurseries at the weekends.  We often had a chat in the shop about gardening and plants and was struck by her enthusiasm.

About a year ago, she told me that she wanted to make a new start in work and follow her interest in gardening.  It was a question of how and when!
I told her how and the when is now.  She had a really lucky break straight off and landed a part-time job at Easton Walled Garden up the A1 from us.

She is now looking for gardening work for the rest of her working week.

Amy is a cut above other ‘professional’ gardeners in that she knows her plants and takes trouble to find out about the ones she doesn’t.  She will not mow grass or cut hedges, preferring to concentrate on her love of plants and their maintenance.

If you are looking for a gardener or want to know more, please ring me and we’ll chat.  I’d love to think that she is successful in this new venture but, knowing her as I do, she will.

The Parish Council doesn't meet in August but good things are still happening...

More great facilities at the Playing Field

Thanks to a grant for North Northants Council and some very capable and willing volunteers, the Play Area on the Playing Fields now has a splendid wooden gazebo as a shelter.
It will soon have some seating to go with it, and hopefully it will be enjoyed and treated with respect by all who use it.

Thanks to Kevin Cox, Simon Woodman, Jerry Rawlinson and Jerry Watson for making this happen.

Coming to a letterbox near you...

One of the initiatives we have been meaning to do for a while is to compile a welcome letter to all new residents of Easton on the Hill.
We have now done this, and it is on its way to everyone in the village, as we thought that there may be some information in it that is of interest to all residents, however long they have lived here.
Also, “blanket coverage” is the only way to make sure we have covered everyone who has recently moved in.
We hope you find it useful, and do please let us know if you have new neighbours in future that would benefit from a copy.

Thanks to Pat Firth for help in compiling this and to CIPS for printing.

103rd Annual Show – Chairman’s Report

There were ups and downs for our annual horticultural show held on Sunday 7th August. The downs were a smaller entry for vegetables and flowers but this was to be expected due to the hot weather and lack of rain (us gardeners are never satisfied with the weather!) but there was still enough to give a lovely display. We were also surprised at the low entries in photography, as previous years usually yielded a large number of exhibits.
The ups were the number of people who came to visit us and partake of teas and cakes in the Blue Bell garden and came to the village hall to see the show entries displayed; have a go on the tombola; and buy raffle tickets. There was lots of chatter between exhibitors and visitors which is always good to see.
Also on the ups list was the glorious weather, maybe a bit too warm but so nice to sit under the marquee roof in the pub garden and have a cup of tea and chat to friends.
Another up was the number of helpers and committee members we had who set up/took down display stands and tables and made cakes for the teas and served them, they were brilliant and I very much thank them for all of their hard work to make the show a success.
This year’s show has also given me plenty to think about for next year – yes, there will definitely be a show! It will be bigger and better and anyone interested in helping us, please contact me, we always need people to keep this show alive for everyone in the village.
So overall it looks as though there were far more ups than downs!
