Calling All Young Artists

The City of Windsor and the International Relations Committee are inviting local children between 6 and 12 years of age to participate in our 5th Annual Children’s Art Exhibition, which will once again be held virtually. The theme for this year’s exhibition is “We Are 1 World.”

Pictures of the drawings should be emailed in JPEG format no later than Thursday, July 15, 2021.

Selected entries will be included in our virtual Children’s Art Exchange that will be shared by social media both locally and abroad along with art created by children in our twin cities, including Fujisawa, Japan; Gunsan, South Korea; Changchun, China; Lublin, Poland; Saltillo, Mexico; and Mannheim, Germany.

Virtual Engagement on Archaeological Management Plan

The City of Windsor is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of the Windsor Archaeological Management Plan (WAMP). Join us on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, from either 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. or 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. to hear about the update. Learn about our public engagement sessions.

Mayor Dilkens Hosts Community Conversations Series

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is launching a series of online Community Conversations to allow residents to hear directly from the Mayor on a variety of important local topics and to participate in a dialogue regarding the future of our city. Register today for one of three virtual meetings to hear updates on key city initiatives, and for an opportunity to ask your questions.

Unemployed Help Centre Community Garden

The garden will grow on! COVID-19 restrictions once again threatened to scuttle the community garden project that supports the Unemployed Help Centre. But City staff have stepped in to ensure the initial planting will lead to another bountiful yield.

Garry Dugal Park Improvements

TThe City of Windsor marked completion of several enhancements to Garry Dugal Park today. Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 5 Councillor Ed Sleiman were on hand to celebrate the improvements to Dugal Park and the ongoing commitment to the Ford City neighbourhood.

National Garden Week at City Owned Parks

Windsor's Horticulture Department Celebrates National Garden Week. In this video Wanda Letourneau, manager of horticulture, explains how the department switches Windsor's gardens from season to season. Horticulture employs many people who work hard to create the beautiful visuals you see in this video. Go visit one of Windsor's many gardens this summer and tip your hat to a horticulture worker!

Transit Improvements and Fare Restructuring

Transit Windsor is making improvements to service and convenience in 2021 through an updated fleet, extra amenities and new technology. 19 new clean-diesel buses are being added to the fleet, reducing emissions and Transit Windsor’s carbon footprint. As well, 70 new bus shelters will be placed at stops around the city, and 147 new concrete pads will be installed for greater accessibility. The Transit Windsor Smart Ride card will see the elimination of the need for paper tickets, and real-time overcrowding software will improve efficiency.

Along with the service and convenience improvements, Transit is also restructuring fares as of Thursday, July 1, 2021.

As approved during the 2021 budget process, fares will increase by 2%. A full list of pricing can be found at transitwindsor.ca.

Museum Windsor - What is this?

Portrait of Henry Johnson, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a sailor in the British Navy and prided himself in never having been a slave. Johnson came to Windsor in the early 1870’s and was a self-employed drayman (driver of a dray, a low, flat-bed wagon without sides, pulled generally by horses or mules that were used to transport all kinds of goods).

He delivered goods and cargo from Great Western freighters to prominent local businesses such as Cameron and Bartlet (Bartlet, Macdonald and Gow); the Dougall brothers; and Smith and Duck.

The City of Windsor conducts surveys as a means of soliciting ideas and opinions from residents so we can better serve the community as a whole. Check back often to see if a new survey is ready for your input.
