Community Group Classes Resume this Month
After more than a year of closures and limited gatherings, this summer brings the opportunity to try something new! We're excited to announce that our in-studio classes are resuming this month and there's still time to register.
Our
Adult All-Levels Class is open to both beginners and experienced players - no musical experience is required, just a willingness to have fun and learn something new. Our summer session also brings a unique opportunity for students to perform at Missouri Botanical Garden's Japanese Festival, happening over Labor Day weekend.
Beginners will learn the basics of sticking,
kata (form), and movement. After learning some common taiko rhythms, students will also learn some pieces you can play. Experienced players will learn more complicated rhythms and playing styles, and will also be introduced to other types of taiko to learn the full range of sounds available in
kumidaiko (ensemble taiko).
Above: Experienced players learn to play in the seated
yatai style, as well as our large
odaiko.
Learning taiko isn't just about drumming patterns; it's also a great way to exercise! It also helps to improve self-awareness, rhythm, and concentration. It can also relieve stress and - let's be honest - is a lot of fun!
