Hey,

I took a couple of weeks off, but I’m back now. Luckily for you, that means there’s a backlog of really great recommendations this week. A great mix of finance, health, parenting and career.

Here’s a brief idea from me, and a few content recommendations that have the potential to shift your thinking in a significant way.

IDEA FROM ME:

When I was in my twenties, I used to think being critical of myself was one of my biggest strengths. It was a trigger to keep pushing and achieving new goals.

My expectations were always sky high. If I did something well, it could have been better. If I missed the mark on something, I would beat myself up and be ultra critical of myself.

I can’t deny, it did help me be ambitious and achieve more than I would have otherwise. But, it was a pretty unhappy way to live life.

I’ve since had to learn how to better manage this drive. It’s useful, but it needs reigning in. It also needs a healthy dose of self compassion to accompany it. Yes, I’m trying to be the best version of myself – but, that comes with a lot of twists, turns, bumps and mistakes. And that’s OK.

I still slip into my old ways from time to time, but using the advice above – even that’s OK. It’ll happen from time to time. I try to just notice it, chill out a bit and get back to things.

THINGS TO SHARE:

The Sevan Podcast EP 40 - Doctor Tro (podcast – 1 hour, 25 mins)

This is a fantastic listen. Doctor Tro is a Primary Care Physician, who offers a deeper, more personal service to patients. It’s super inspiring. Some great insights into why the healthcare system is broken. It also has a bunch of great tips on how to think about being in good health. It was a timely nudge I needed recently to tighten up some aspects of my lifestyle and nutrition.

This Makes It Harder by Daily Dad (podcast – 3 mins)

I love the Daily Dad podcast. This one gets straight to the point and really struck a chord with me. If you’re a parent, this 3 min episode might just immediately change how you parent.

Pomp - Bitcoin, Asset Allocation, and the Psychology of Crypto HODLing by Modern Finance (podcast – 57 mins)

I’ve been diving into the world of crypto over the last couple of months. I found this episode a really good overview of how to think about crypto and bitcoin.

The Value Of Doing Something Real In The World by Brad Stulberg (article – 2 mins read)

A short reminder of how easy it is to get lost in the world of work and technology.

James Clear – Not being busy is a competitive advantage (tweet)

SO, so true. If your work week is back to back, you might want to think about building in 30% flex. Not only will you be better positioned to seize unexpected opportunities – you’ll also find yourself able to think more clearly, and make better decisions.

David Sinclair – finding and being a mentor (tweet)

Not much else to say than – spot on.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Cheers,
Daniel
