Summer is ... happening

Here's what you need to know today ...

Almost half of the expected responses have come in already....thank you.

Please take 3 minutes today to complete this survey if you haven't already.

Please fill out this SURVEY to help with the final planning stages ✅ 📲 ⌛️

We need your response by this Sunday, June 13, so we can put the final touches on our plan.

The SURVEY is 6 questions and will take 2 minutes to complete.

And now a repeat of the newsletter in case you missed it before....

The Board has worked hard to plan for this impossible summer, and we have come up with a plan that will involve lots and LOTS of FUN...and ENGAGING sailing!

But we need your help as we get closer to this event.

We are almost SOLD OUT with our current pre-registrations, for July. August has more flexibility.

Adding an afternoon session is highly likely, at least for July ... but we need YOUR input about shifting from am to pm sessions. Or if you were considering shifting to August, from July, we need to know that too.

Our goal is not to turn anyone away this summer.

REGISTRATION PAYMENTS FOR THE FIRST SESSION WILL BE PROCESSED ON JUNE 21.

Payment for subsequent sessions will be taken 2 weeks prior to the start of the program - see Summer Dates 2021 below.

After that date, if you need to cancel due to Covid, or other medical reasons, you will receive a full refund. However, if you cancel for other reasons, YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR FEES for that session. This is a big change on our end, but planning this summer has been difficult, and we decided it was a necessary change for this year.

Keeping all the Provincial Guidelines in mind, and our own very considered and well-researched Covid-safety plan, at this time, our plan is to stay the course and open the SLSC sailing season with single-handed sailing (unless two members of the same household plan to sail together).

When the Guidelines change, we will too.

As we have all experienced this year, the Regulations and Rules are apt to change, and we hope that this will open the door for our program to adapt as well.

Single-handed sailing is an exciting new frontier to cross for some, and we realize some may also be a bit nervous about this, but don't be. Our instructors are ready and prepared to help everyone feel comfortable and excited to be on the water.

Read on below, and then share this newsletter with your kids to show them about the exciting, and NEW frontiers, that single-handed sailing has to offer.

Thank you for your patience with all of this, and we appreciate your prompt response to the survey so that we can finalize our plans for July.

Very best,

SLSC Board

p.s. Thank you for filling out the 6-question survey
So let's go over a few things first:
This is what single-handed sailing looks like, more or less...
And this is double-handed
Check out our new Wet Feet Plans

This year the Wet Feet program will be different....it has brand spanking new boats to discover....they will be the very, very first SLSC sailors to get to try these new boats.

Calling all Wet Feeters who are ready to command your own boat!!

These boats are called Sail Cubes, and here's a couple of images of them to think about ...

(No, we won't have multi-coloured boats, but it is nice to dream of a green boat, I agree. Wouldn't purple be cool too?!)

These boats are super safe and designed to teach sailors how to command their own ship.

Let's get out there on the water with our new boats!

Check out these SailCubes in action!!
CanSail 1-2 will sail in both the Optis and the Picos
Did you know there's a whole world out there of Opti racing....here's some video from World Juniors in Antigua from 2019....They aren't just little boats! They have an exciting future.

Next cool new boat we have is the O'Pen Skiff, designed for CanSail3

Benjamin Wisener learned to sail O'Pen Skiff at the Nepean Sailing Club last year, and here's his Top 5 reasons why he thinks they are awesome:
  1. It's really fun and you get more control over what you want to do
  2. To set up the O'Pen Skiff it's super easy and doesn't take long
  3. On great days you can go really fast and it feels like you're flying
  4. It's relaxing with just you
  5. It's just one of the best boats
The O'Pen Skiff is a new pathway for Junior Sailors...check out this cool video from 2015 that shows kids out there going for it...can't wait for windy days at Sturgeon Lake this summer.

For the senior sailors, in CanSail 4-5-6, we've been fixing up some Lasers and Bytes to use for single-handed sailing.

Hopefully, we will be able to use the 420s as the summer moves on, and the restrictions loosen.

We. Can. Do. This.

And it's going to be AWESOME, and FUN.
