The Impact of Encounters
In Exodus 24 we see a picture of Moses meeting with God, having been called to meet on Mt. Sinai. I love this picture because Moses didn't just go up alone.
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.”
13 So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.
Moses did not have this encounter alone. The focus is on Moses, and God called him to meet, but he brought his assistant with him. He went to encounter God and didn't go it alone. We don't know what Joshua saw, but he went up the mountain with Moses.
God calls us to meet with Him having placed His Spirit within us. We can meet God anywhere, any time. We have the capacity to receive instructions and see His glory as we draw near to Him through the grace He has given to come boldly.
With Moses being (in my opinion) the most critical figure in the Old Testament, we can follow his lead in extending the invitation to those we are loving, mentoring, and encouraging to join us in our encounters.
Paul took Silas, Barnabas, Luke, and Timothy (along with many others) with him as he ministered. This was not just for support, but for the sake of their encounter as well. A good teacher demonstrates and invites people into their encounters, and breakthroughs. Timothy became a son in the faith to Paul, and Paul recalled the encounters they shared that shaped Timothy's life (1 Timothy 4:14).
I want to encourage you to seek the Lord for deep personal encounters, but don't keep them to yourself. Invite people to come with you for the journey up the mountain, and their lives will be changed for it.
