Trash and/or Sewer Rebate Program:

West Goshen Township is offering a Trash and/or Sewer Rebate again this year. West Goshen seniors age 65 or older who have an income under $35,000 and received a Pennsylvania Property/Rent Tax Rebate this year are eligible to apply for a Trash and/or Sewer Rebate through West Goshen Township. Rebate Applications will be mailed in June to everyone who received a West Goshen Trash and/or Sewer rebate in the past. First time applicants may receive an application for the Trash and/or Sewer Rebate program by calling 610-696-5266, ext. 4108. The Trash and/or Sewer Rebate Program application is also available at the West Goshen Township Administration Building after July 1, 2021. The Trash and/or Sewer Rebate Program application must be completed and returned to West Goshen Township by October 31, 2021.

Sunoco / Energy Transfer Boot Road Pump Station Incident

  • At approximately 10:20 pm on Monday, May 31, 2021, a small amount of propane leaked inside the Sunoco / Energy Transfer Boot Road Pump Station.  West Goshen Township Police, Goshen Fire Company and Energy Transfer personnel were on-scene within minutes.
The pipeline was immediately shutdown by Energy Transfer upon notification of the leak and emergency protocols were started.  The Chester County HAZMAT Team arrived soon after.  No propane was detected anywhere outside of the pump station building at any time during the incident.
  • The incident is still under investigation to determine a cause and the Board of Supervisors plans to implement more methods to communicate with residents during incidents.

Community Park Splashpad

  • The Board of Supervisors is considering installation of a splashpad at Community Park.  A splashpad will offer a respite during the hot summer months for children (and adults!) to continue enjoying Community Park by offering a place to cool off.
Look for additional updates on planning for this great addition to Community Park in coming months.

American Rescue Plan Funding

  • The recently enacted American Rescue Plan provides funding to municipalities to fund infrastructure improvements and COVID-related expenses.  West Goshen Township is eligible to receive just over $2,400,000 in American Rescue Plan funding, with 50% of the funds arriving in less than 60 days and the remaining 50% to arrive in one year.  The American Rescue Plan has strict use regulations and the Board of Supervisors and Township staff are reviewing potential projects for the funding.  The Board of Supervisors will discuss the use of funds at upcoming public meetings.

Roadwork

  • PennDOT is currently milling and repaving Pottstown Pike from the West Chester Borough line to West Whiteland Township.  Please use caution while driving in the project area.

Elected Auditor Vacancy

  • The Township currently has a vacancy for one of the three Elected Auditor positions.  If you are interested in serving as an appointed Auditor until January 1, 2022, please send a letter of interest to Casey LaLonde, Township Manager, at twp@westgoshen.org or drop off your letter at the Township building.
  • Letters of interest are due by 5:00 pm, June 30th.

Survey on Trusting Your Local Government

Do you trust West Goshen Township to do what is right?

This is the question at the heart of a West Chester University doctoral dissertation study.  From about 1930 into the 1960s, the majority of citizens trusted the government to do what is right.  But, as the country advanced through the middle of the century, this idyllic state transformed, and the public’s trust in government steadily declined.  While some distrust is essential and desirable in a democracy, incessant distrust threatens to erode the democratic principles on which this nation is founded.

This study specifically contemplates whether the way in which citizens and local public officials communicate impacts the level of public trust citizens have in their local government.  Click here to take the survey.

POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS

During the month of June, we are honoring Bianca Roberson’s memory by participating in the Spread the Love Food Drive benefiting the Chester County Food Bank. Please consider dropping off your nonperishable food items at the collection box located in the lobby of the police department or visit www.daisiesforbianca.org to make a virtual donation. This event was created by Merge with Mercy (the foundation started by Bianca's mother Michelle) and the Chester County chapter of Moms Demand Action (a grassroots organization dedicated to reducing gun violence) and donations will be accepted up until June 27th. The West Goshen Township Police Department is excited to announce that it has joined Neighbors by Ring!

What is Neighbors?

Neighbors is Ring’s free, app-based neighborhood watch feature that alerts you to crime and safety events in a radius of up to 5 miles around your home. You don’t need any Ring devices to use Neighbors because the company also offers a standalone Neighbors app for iOS and Android devices. Click here to download the app.

How does it work?

Anyone with a smartphone can download the Neighbors app to receive updates and have the option to post photographs or videos from any device.

Once you create a post, it shows up in two spots in the app: on a map of the designated area and in a timeline, along with photos and video, if you share those as well. You do not have to share digital media to create a Neighbors post.

Users should only post about crime, safety, unusual activity, and lost pets. However, they are also encouraged to share acts of kindness. It is always good to catch someone being awesome!

Thank you again to everyone that came out for our "Coffee With a Cop" event. We look forward to having another event in the near future. Special thanks to Pebbles for visiting. Oh the cuteness of this little girl!

COMMISSION & COMMITTEE NEWS

SAC Initiatives Update

The Sustainability Advisory Committee is currently working on several of the key initiatives we established at our first meeting in September 2020. They are:

  • Analysis of the township’s vehicle fleet towards the goal of transitioning over time to all-electric and/or hybrid vehicles.

  • With the Board of Supervisors, evaluating the feasibility of purchasing a standalone, solar-powered charging station that can accommodate up to six vehicles at a time.

  • Outreach to various municipalities and entities in support of reducing single-use plastics in the Township.

  • Collaborating with other committees and WGT staff to improve the Township’s ordinances regulating solar energy facilities.

  • Development of a tree ordinance in pursuit of a Tree City USA designation by the Arbor Day Foundation and conducting a tree canopy study as a component of this initiative.

  • Scouting locations for an urban community garden.

Township Heritage Trees:

A heritage tree is typically a large, individual tree with unique value, which is considered irreplaceable. The major criteria for heritage tree designation are age, rarity, and size, as well as aesthetic, botanical, ecological, and historical value. Do you know of a tree that may qualify as a West Goshen heritage tree? Let us know, and we will identify and estimate its age. Email twp@westgoshen.org with the subject line “Heritage Trees.”

Next SAC Meeting:

The committee will not be meeting in June. The next online meeting is on Tuesday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m. For details closer to the date, please consult the Township calendar.
