Dr. Jason Cleaversmith to lead Emergence

Dr. Jason Cleaversmith has been appointed Executive Director, Incubation and Infrastructure and will be responsible for Emergence Bioscience Incubator as well as hold a strategic responsibility for the various BioAlliance facilities and equipment initiatives currently underway and planned. Emergence accepts their newest client - Soricimed

New Brunswick-based Soricimed is a clinical stage company focused on the development and commercialization of first-in-class drugs for the targeted treatment of cancer. Currently at the clinical stage, Soricimed was established following the discovery of a unique and proprietary family of anti-cancer peptides. It is now working on translating this discovery into novel therapies to deliver powerful treatment options for those living with often devastating conditions. Read more.

Because Animals closes latest seed funding to reach $6.7M
Because Animals recently closed its seed-stage financing round, bringing the total to $6.7M, which will allow the company to ramp up product development and production of a first-of-its-kind cat treat that will incorporate lab-cultured meat proteins. It is focused on launching its first complete-and-balanced diet in 2022. Read more. Because Animals will also participate in Future Food-Tech Alternative Proteins June 22-23 and was a finalist in Protein X Awards.

EVAH announces agreements for four technologies from Elanco
EVAH Corp. signed four contracts with Elanco Animal Health to acquire and develop four technologies in animal health. EVAH is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of biologicals to help prevent bacterial diseases in food animals and microbiome solutions for growth performance.  Read more.

Pegasus has a new website
Pegasus Biotech has a new website highlighting its services providing high quality vaccine (DNA, autogenous, rProtein) development services to the animal health sector as well as developing accurate and reliable analytical testing methods for the human and animal health industry. View here.

Picomole aiming at 2024 launch
Picomole is focused on their major funding round this year and is aiming to have their product on the market that can offer detection of lung cancer from a single breath sample in 2024. Its goal is to offer an easily accessible device that can collect a quick sample which could allow for earlier diagnosis and increase a person's chances of survival. Read more.

Auxly closes private placement of $8M
Auxly (Dosecann parent company) announced that it has closed its previously announced private placement of $8M which will be used for working capital and general corporate purposes. Read more. Bait Masters prepares to scale up production
Bait Masters is scaling up production to 10,000 units as demand increases for alternative bait further to a cut in quota of traditional bait. The bait is a mix of fish and other organic matters in a biodegradable casing which makes it a sustainable choice. Read more.

TerreVerdae Bioworks releases new bioplastic product line
TerreVerdae has a new line of PHA-based resins available in three versions: for blown/cast films, injection moulding and thermoforming. Its focus is to produce plastic resins that are not just biobased and biodegradable but, also, have requisite performance properties for customers to meet evolving material needs and sustainability goals. The Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL) has appointed Penny Walsh-McGuire as their new Executive Director. CASTL is a partnership between academia, industry, and government that aims to address the future skills needs of Canada's fast-growing bioscience sector.
