Changes to Waste Collection on Queen's Birthday Public Holiday

Due to the public holiday on Monday June 13th, if your wet waste is usually collected on Mondays it will now be collected on Tuesday June 14th 2021. To ensure pickup on that day, please remember to have your bins out the night before.

The new waste and recycle calendar 2021 - 2022 is now available at the Burra and Eudunda Council Offices.

Will you join the Challenge?

Plastic Free July helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution - so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities by choosing to refuse single-use plastics. The campaign provides resources and ideas to help people reduce unnecessary plastic waste every day - at home, work school and in the community.
Whether you're new to Plastic Free July, or have already been involved in promoting the challenge impact reporting shows that more and more people are ready to make change, and together we can make plastic-free living the norm in our communities.

COVID-19 Pandemic
Due to the changing landscape on restrictions please refer to current information and daily updates: www.covid-19.sa.gov.au

If someone in South Australia tests positive to COVID-19, the COVID SAfe Check-In enables SA Health to quickly contact others who may have been exposed to the virus and stop the spread of COVID-19.

SA Government COVID-19 Webpage
                      14/05/21

Thank you for playing your part in keeping SA COVID Safe.

The COVID SAfe Check-In is one of the most important tools we have in tracing the potential spread of COVID-19 during an exposure or outbreak. When an outbreak occurs, if everyone has been checking in consistently, we are less likely to need measures like widespread requirements for isolation, lockdowns and border closures.

Launch of Operation Trace
SA Police have launched Operation ‘Trace’ today, using plain clothes police officers to ensure that people are checking in and providing their contact details when they enter a business or attend a public activity.
Police officers will also be ensuring businesses have QR codes displayed, are providing a secure hard copy check-in option and are ensuring as far as possible that customers and patrons are checking in.
Full details and requirements in relation to using the COVID SAfe Check-In system are in the Emergency Management (Public Activities No 24) (COVID-19) Direction 2021.

Keeping physical contact tracing records secure
Following an incident of a person misusing information taken from physical contact tracing records at a business, we would like to help you ensure your physical contact tracing records are kept secure.
Contact tracing records must be kept in a way that reduces the risk of them being copied, photographed, taken or used by another person (other than an authorised officer). Here are some ideas to help you reduce the risk of your customer’s details being copied:
  • Place paper-based contact tracing records where they can be supervised by a staff member as well as regularly removed and replaced with a new contact tracing record sheet.
  • Provide customers with individual check-in sheets that customers can fill in and put into a secure box. Individual check-in sheet templates are available at www.sa.gov.au/checkin.
  • Store records in a safe location at the end of each day. After 28 days they should be disposed of securely. If your business does not have bins specifically for confidential documents, please shred or rip the records into small pieces before disposing.
  • You can scan the records and keep them electronically instead of retaining all paper records for 28 days. If you do this, please ensure your system is secure and the electronic records are fully deleted/disposed of securely after 28 days.
For more information and resources, visit www.sa.gov.au/checkin.

Public Activities Direction Update
The Public Activities Direction has been updated in South Australia and came into effect on Friday 7 May 2021. The Direction amendment prohibits interference with COVID SAfe Check-In QR codes.
This means a person who interferes with or removes a sign containing a dedicated COVID SAfe Check-In QR code without authorisation is in breach of the Direction and may receive an expiation notice under the Emergency Management Act 2004.

More Information
For more information please visit www.covid-19.sa.gov.au or call the SA COVID-19 Information Line on 1800 253 787 between 9am to 5pm, 7 days per week.

RENEWABLES PROJECTS UPDATE REPORT - 1 JUNE 2021

BY MEL ZERNER

ELECTRANET PROJECT ENERGY CONNECT – INTERCONNECTOR
Electranet have announced on 31 May 2021 that the Australian Energy Regulator has approved the expenditure of $2.28 billion to deliver the project from Robertstown to Wagga Wagga in NSW. This includes $457 million for Electranet to construct the South Australian section of the project. Transgrid has made an investment decision to proceed with the NSW section of the project & the Electranet Board will consider its final investment decision in the first week of June. I have been in contact with the management of the two contractors that are tendering for the position of Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) of the Interconnector project. These companies are Downer Utilities and UGL and they are very keen to use local accommodation, businesses & labour as part of their tender. I have prepared & provided a proposal for costing of a local accommodation for approximately 130 workers being housed for 12 months in furnished residential housing as well as the standard tourist type accommodation including motels, hotels, caravan parks, cottages & bed & breakfast facilities. I understand that the tenders have to be lodged by July & then an appointment of the contractor will be made soon after. The project is planned to commence at the end of the year or early 2022. Given that the South Australian section of the project is located in Robertstown to the border east of Renmark, the contractors have also asked whether the accommodation model developed for the Goyder region can be simulated in the region from Morgan to Paringa. I am in the process of making preliminary enquiries through Regional Development Australia – Murraylands & Riverland, to engage the four local councils to assist with this accommodation exercise. These are the Mid-Murray Council, District Council of Loxton & Waikerie, Berri & Barmera Council & Renmark & Paringa Council.

NEOEN – GOYDER RENEWABLES ZONE
I met with local Community Coordinator, Hannah Wilson in early May & had a productive discussion regarding the use of local accommodation, businesses & labour for up to 300 workers on the project. CEO David Stevenson & Cr. Bill Gebhardt from the Regional Council of Goyder met with Neoen senior management on 31 May 2021 to discuss ongoing progress of the project. Neoen are in the process of appointing an EPC contractor, as well as the continuation of soil testing. Construction is and light civil construction work has a planned commencement at the end of 2021.

EPS ENERGY – ROBERTSTOWN SOLAR
EPS Energy announced on 4 May 2021 the selection of Amp Energy as the successful development partner to progress the EPS Solar & Storage facility at Robertstown. EPS Energy will now be progressing the project through to the pre-construction phase with the initial works including geotechnical investigations, further biodiversity assessment & the completion of heritage studies. Amp Energy stated that it expects the project to commence “stage energisation” in late 2022, which suggests construction will have commence late 2021 or this year or early 2022.

OTHER INFORMATION
I will obtain further updates from the management of May Bros - Solar River Project, Green Gold Energy - Australia Plains Project and the RES - Twin Creek project for my next full report in August 2021. The Robertstown Power Sub Station project is now winding down & is expected to be completed by June/July 2021. As the commencement dates of the various projects comes closer, further community advertisements will be circulated to refresh & enlarge the accommodation register that I am maintaining & also to register interest from local residents of the Goyder region as workers on the projects.

Applications now open for Future Drought Fund’s Networks to Build Drought Resilience program

Community organisations and networks can access a share of $4.5 million under the Networks to Build Drought Resilience program, with grants on offer to drive action on drought resilience. The program will be delivered by the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR).

Through the Networks to Build Resilience program, the Australian Government’s investment of $3.375m, together with a $1.125m contribution from FRRR, will enable $4.5 million to be available for on-ground community capacity building projects, across two funding rounds.

The Networks to Build Drought Resilience program will support the community organisations, networks and infrastructure that help people and communities prepare for, and live through, times of drought. The program will fund events, activities, training and small-scale infrastructure that assist communities to build their capacity.

FRRR CEO Natalie Egleton said local community networks are the foundation of resilient communities.

“Through this program we’re helping to invest in the future of agriculture-dependent regions by enabling them to prepare now for periods of ongoing dryness,” Ms Egleton said.

“A key element of this program will be to build stronger networks, and to encourage greater sharing of learnings and more collaboration within and across networks.”

Applications are now open and close at 5pm AEST, 5 July 2021. Grant recipients will be announced October 2021.
