What's new at SCYAP

June 15, 2021 marks the 20th Anniversary of SCYAP!

In 2001 a man arrived in town and knocked the Saskatoon non-profit world on its butt!  Fast forward 20 years, 3 location moves, 14 Urban Canvas Projects and 1000's of young people helped in our community, we are proud to say that Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming is here to stay!  SCYAP's success as a charitable and non-profit organization can all be attributed to the dedication, hard work, tenacity, and the unwavering vision of one man, Darrell Lechman.  Without Darrell's obstinate persistence to create a place where all young people would feel welcomed and included, SCYAP as we know it today would simply not exist.  We have grown over the years to include much more than the initial Urban Canvas Project, we have adapted to the changes in government, we have modified programming to fit ever changing funding models, and we have even weathered a pandemic.  Although, Darrell quietly retired from SCYAP in 2016, he remains an important and valued resource for the current staff, and we are proud to continue the legacy he started in 2001.  Here's to Darrell Lechman and the next 20 years!  To read more about Darrell's accomplishments click on the link https://scyapinc.org/staff/darrell-lechman/

SCYAP is currently open to public between 12pm and 4pm during the week.  We are following Covid- 19 protocols (so masks please) and limiting the number of bodies in the building to 10, however we are still a great place to drop-in and create some art.  As we have mentioned before we have creative content on our website for those who want to keep busy at home. Here are the links where the content can be found.

We still have "Take and Make" Art Kits ready for pick up!  You can choose either painting or drawing, and yes these are free, but quantities are limited.  If your organization is interested in having custom "Take and Make" art kits SCYAP will create those for you.  Custom kits start at $10/kit and include everything in the free kits plus a whole bunch more.  The minimum order for custom kits is 10.  Contact projects@scyapinc.com for more info.
