A week of 100s! Swiftly following the achievement of recording 100 female members, the Women's 1st XI recorded a convincing 100 run victory to kick off Women's Big Cricket Month with their first ever competitive centurion! Susan Little, returning to the game after an eight year hiatus, recorded a mammoth 141 not out in just her fourth innings for the club to propel the W1s to 308-1 in 35 overs. The “Dame of the Game” was ably supported by Izzy Marin-Curtoud (35), Verity Quade (41* retired hurt) and Tanya Wanless 25*. This is the highest team total we've seen from any section for a good few years and it proved too difficult for Twickenham to chase. Wickets were shared between Paige Copsey (3-34), Anna Biggs (3-24), Annabel Leach (2-23) and Emma Crandon (2-1).

Outdoor Sport Showings - Euros on at the club!

The £425 raised to date has paid for an upgrade to our digital scoreboard that enables us to display video including live TV. It has been in use already this week at the junior half-term camp, and will be used in many upcoming socials.

SMCC Code of Conduct
A reminder that all members and parents / guardians should abide by the Senior Code of Conduct or Junior Code of Conduct, as appropriate. There have been some minor indiscretions reported recently so please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the policies and behave appropriately whilst representing or supporting the club to make it fun for all.

Senior Roundup
The Men's 2s recorded a tense two run victory against Ewell with Sam Keenan (9.2-1-24-4) bowling the set batsman with Ewell within sight of victory. The M2s struggled with the bat but reached 176 with key contributions from Harry McNeil-Adams (71) and Alex Spencer (35). This looked wholly inadequate as Ewell raced to 90-1 before Spencer got the set batsman out and precipitated a collapse of SMCC proportions. At 101-5, the game was in the balance but Ewell's no 4 kept them in the hunt, getting them within one hit before Keenan stuck.
There were similarly tight games in the Men's 3rd and Surrey 5th XI. The M3s can take a lot of confidence from almost chasing down a substantial 266 at Sutton, falling just 17 runs short. Sahib Singh (85) and Jack Ettinger (57) were the mainstays of the innings.There was a Forman double act in the M(S)5s as Stan (3-37) and Dan (3-34) helped restrict Esher to 185-8. At 151-3 in reply, we lost Alex Waring who had scored a maiden club 50 and Esher took their opportunity to squeeze. Wickets fell regularly and we fell just three runs short.
Oli Nicholls produced a stunning spell of left arm swing bowling to skittle Addiscombe for just 51 in the Men's 1st XI fixture. Oli finished with figures of 10-3-17-7, the best 1st XI bowling figures recorded for over 20 years! The M1s chased this for the loss of just one wicket.

The 6s strong bowling attack produced the goods again at Mayow with a team effort to restrict Old Wilsonians to 119-9 in 40 overs. Sundar Viswanathan (36*) and Roshan Saini (47) were solid and the target was chased with few alarms.
The Men's 4th XI struggled against a good Mitcham bowling attack and were dismissed for just 66 at home. The M4s took a couple of late wickets but lost by five wickets. The Men's (Kent) 5th XI also struggled with the bat and fell 85 short of Old Colfeians target of 161.
On Sunday, the Men's 1st XI beat Ploughmans by five wickets with Baqa Haider (63) and Ravi Paul (52) helping to chase down 193. The Men's 2nd XI also had batting woes as they fell well short of Catford's 248.
The Strikers (T20) XI lost two good games of cricket against Addiscombe and Afghan United during the week. Harry McNeil Adams again in the runs with 50 retired and Vanderpant 48*.
Finally, thanks to Alan Knott and Andrew Shackleford who answered the plea to help fixing one of the benches. There's tonnes to be doing around the ground at the moment as it grows like mad so please let me know if you have a couple of hours spare.

Junior Roundup
This week got underway with the Boys U13s playing on consecutive mid-week evenings (kudos to the parents) beating Beckenham by 7 wickets but losing to Old Whits by 84 runs. Stand-out bowlers were Alexander Wright (2 for 18), Demir Ediz (3 for 16) and Cillian Farrell-Bryan (2 for 14) and stand-out batters were Vedant Sarkar (21 from 31) and Jonny Kay (25 from 22). The U13s returned to action on Sunday against Catford & Cyphers, winning by 26 runs with Keo Derrick taking 2 for 11, Herb Balaam taking 3 for 5 and Daniel Harrison making 23 from 24.
On Saturday, the soft-ball teams recorded a 50/50 record. The U8s lost a friendly to Old Whits, Kiran Trivedi made a net 8 with the bat and Lucas Dyce made a net 6. Kiran also took a wicket, as did Ellie Cañadas.
The Boys U9s, however put one over on Dulwich in a league game, winning by 2 runs. As one of the team managers put it: "A low-scoring but exciting game with a damp outfield and a brilliant team effort. Especially well done to Alex Ashworth who cover drove the last ball for 2 to win the game - but everybody contributed"
On Sunday, the Boys U12s also notched up a positive result against their counterparts from the other side of the A205, beating Dulwich by 43 runs. "Excellent win. Batting, bowling and fielding were superb today" said one of the parents. Opener Horace Zaltzman made 25 from 30 balls and Matthew Harrison made 24 from 22. Gus Butler-Wright finished with the fabulous figures of 3 overs, 3 wickets for 3 runs. However, with 2 wickets for 7 runs and a blistering 32 runs from just 16 balls, Jonathan Kay was undoubtedly the star.
The Girls U11-13s couldn't make it three out of three against DCC, but made 94 chasing 118, which shows how much progress they have made. To paraphrase one of the team managers: "Lily Morrin unnerved Dulwich with some super fast bowling, unlucky to take just 1 wicket and retired not out on 17. Eva Hanna retired not out for the second time in 2 games, on 20. Rosa Robinson hit 2 cracking 4s in the penultimate over to make 9 from just 7 balls. Recent recruit Taylah Head played her first game as keeper and took a fabulous catch behind the sticks."
The Boys U10s faced AJ Academy in a cup game - their first in conventional format rather than pairs. The result didn't go the way they would have liked, but with cricket at AJ costing roughly double that at SMCC, their players no doubt have some advantages.
The Girls U9-11s, playing their high octane 10-over format, lost a close game to Wimbledon, but stunned Spencer with a win. As team manager Tim Part put it: "Spencer looked shellshocked by the defeat! But no luck involved. Some accurate bowling and good wicket-keeping from all meant that extras were kept to a minimum on a greasy surface that could have given up an awful lot. Batting was strong too. Only two wickets lost meant that the steady stream of confident hitting yielded a 290-268 victory."
Last but not least, the Boys U11s maintained their as yet perfect run in the league, defeating Wimbledon B by 96 runs. Albie-Carrick Birtwell 33 from 39 balls, retired not out. Xavier Slater also hit an elegant 11 and the ever reliable Noah Ghirlando made 14, but the stalwart of the U11 batting this year, Skyler Cook made yet another 31 retired not out. Xavier Slater, Arthur Leitch, Huxley Chapman and Sam Hale Proudley picking up two wickets each, with the final wicket coming from a trade-mark direct hit run out by Skyler from the covers.

SMCC Fantasy Cricket
Luke MacWilliam's sizeable lead was decimated by Alf Grimsey in a huge 769 point week in the Fantasy SMCC Cricket League. Alf now stands top of the tree with 1899 points, 120 clear of Luke with Humphrey Craven third on 1754.
Week 5 MVP was Susan Little with the bat. Susan scored an unbeaten 141 from 131 balls with 17 fours in the W1s victory vs Twickenham. Well played Susan!
