Volunteers
“Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:25)

God continues to bless The New Love Center through the selfless giving of our volunteers, and in turn blesses our volunteers by fulfilling His promise. Words cannot express our gratitude for the countless ways our volunteers bless us. In the month of May, 185 volunteers gave 760 hours of their time! The people who come to The New Love Center for help benefit as much from the food they receive as they do from the genuine love shown by each and every volunteer.

Our Café is going strong, serving take-out meals that are both healthy and delicious every Monday through Friday. In May, we served 1,686 meals. No one should go a day without food, and this program ensures that everyone who wants a meal can get one at no cost. Through the work of our volunteers, we have been able to prepare and deliver these meals for pick-up, as our dining room is still not open. In the month of May, 93 volunteers gave 288.5 hours to make this possible.

Starting Tuesday, June 1, the café returned to dine-in service and take-out was discontinued. Those clients who cannot come in can sign up for meals on wheels, which are being delivered at this time. In the café, wearing a mask is up to each individual. Tables are set up to allow for some distancing and are being sanitized between clients. Numbers are expected to climb as clients get used to coming back in.

Our mission at The New Love Center revolves around providing food for those who would otherwise go without. One of the primary ways we do that is through our pantry, which distributes food on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month. In May, our volunteers helped 1,020 clients receive the food they needed. 86 of those were first time visitors to The New Love Center. The Renovo Pop-Up Pantry allowed us to serve an additional 98 individuals, 5 of whom were new. 139 households received MilitaryShare boxes at the American Legion on May 20. The Backpack program served 175 elementary and middle school students and 55 high school students.

The Fresh Food Farmacy, which is now running full-time out of the Henry Street Annex, continues to provide fresh food to patients and their families living with Type 2 Diabetes. This month there were 5 distribution days, where 56 individuals came in and chose the fresh food they wanted to support a better diet. Through our partnership with Geisinger Health, The New Love Center continues to accomplish our goal of not merely filling people’s stomachs, but truly nourishing the whole person.

Thank You!

On behalf of everyone who benefits from the donations made to The New Love Center, thank you to our kind and ready donors. Without you, those who find themselves food insecure would not have the means to secure their basic needs. This month, we received a total of 3,282 pounds of food. We would like thank the following donors who stepped up in a big way:

  • Lingle’s Neighborhood Market, who donated 64 pounds
of baked goods and other foods.

  • Weis Market, who donated a total of 2,526 pounds of mixed
    meats, breads, and other items.

  • Mr. Sticky, who donated 43 pounds of baked goods.

Thank you to those who make a special contribution each month to provide certain items our clients look forward to. These items add a personal touch to let everyone know how much they’re loved. Here is what we’re asking for in the coming months:

"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."
- Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

Many say that serving at the New Love Center is their “happy place”.  It is an amazing feeling to be able to “Give the gift of happiness” and doing good by serving others and reducing food insecurity in our community is such a blessing.  Our volunteers are the key to so many people’s happiness, please considering giving the gift of joy to others.
