Woodfield Newsletter
Friday 11th June 2021
Dear Parents/ Carers,
We've completed a week of 3:00 pm finishes and the weather has turned so we've had some hot days this week. I'd like to remind parents and carers that pupils are encouraged to bring in a water bottle of their own to school, especially during spells of hot weather. Staff will be able to refill a pupil's water bottle if the need arises.
Whilst on the subject of food and drink, I'd like to remind parents and carers of our policy regarding packed lunches. We are a nut free school as we have several students with a severe nut allergy. A packed lunch must not include any drinks other than water (i.e. no cola, fizzy drinks, fruit juice with added sugar etc), no nuts, no crisps or sweet products (e.g. chocolate, sweets etc). If you are unsure of the suitability of an item in your child's packed lunch, contact the school for clarification.
Sunscreen
During these sunny days, it's important to protect ourselves from the harmful effects of the sun. Make sure your child has a suitable hat to wear whilst they are outside, and pack some sunscreen (a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 to protect against UVB, and at least 4-star UVA protection) in your child's bag.
Sun safety tips
Spend time in the shade when the sun is strongest. In the UK, this is between 11am and 3pm from March to October.
Make sure you:
- spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm
- make sure you never burn
- cover up with suitable clothing and sunglasses
- take extra care with children
- use at least factor 30 sunscreen
As the weather is warming up, we would like to remind parents of the dress code, we expect our 6th form pupils to adhere to.
School Uniform
For pupils in years 7 to 11, the approved school uniform must be worn each day with the exception of own clothes days and cultural days. Hoodies are not permitted as part of this uniform. Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed in their school uniform for school and does not come to school with or wearing a hoodie. These will be confiscated if worn. Please refer to our website for more detailed school uniform information.
Dress Code for Sixth Form Pupils
- Leggings are permitted as long at the top or dress they are worn with falls below the bottom; no shorter than the ends of their arms.
- No strappy or lycra vest tops are permitted without a covering over them such as a cardigan or caftan style top.
- No low cut, revealing, clothing
- Shorts are permitted but must not be shorter than mid thigh.

Mousetrap Summer Stage Summer Stage- Monday 2nd-Friday 6th August
Led-by friendly expert practitioners, Summer Stage is a low-cost Performing Arts summer school for young people aged 13 to 17. Over the course of 5 days, you’ll work together to create an original piece of theatre which is showcased at the end of the week. The week is for young people who are brand-new to taking part in drama projects and want to try it out in a fun and supportive environment. We welcome young people who might have mild-moderate learning needs or require special access arrangements.
See the Mousetrap Theatre webpage for full details.
Laptops
If your child received a laptop during lockdown, you may be requested by the form teacher to send the laptop in with your child once a week for ICT lessons. The form tutors will get in touch with you as to when your child has ICT lessons. This will help teach our students how to take care of their laptops and how to safely carry it to and from school. The laptops and their chargers will need to be labelled.
Relationships and Sex Education: RSE
We are starting to teach the RSE curriculum this term. We had our parent consultation on RSE at the end of Spring term. (You can view the video of the meeting here) Relationships education is taught in Summer, first half of the term, and Sex education will be taught in the second half of the term.
The curriculum is individualised to the needs of our pupils. We will also run pupil specific workshops on Sex/Physical Safety Education in the second half of the term. If you wish to discuss the curriculum being taught in your child's form group, please speak to the teachers. The form teachers can explain the class specific curriculum and the pupil specific content of the workshop your child may attend. The discussions with the form teacher will give you the opportunity to add or tweak the content of the workshops being taught to your child.
Parents will be able to withdraw their child (following discussion with the school) from any or all aspects of Sex Education, up to and until three terms before the age of 16. We will send out a form for this (on request) towards the end of the first half of this term. This should give you enough time to think about the curriculum and have discussions with the form tutors, and decide what you want for your child.
Term Dates for 2021-2022
The term dates for 2021-2022 are now published on our website. Whilst we do not expect any changes to these dates, if we are required to do so, we will inform you of any changes.
