From Harwich to New Hampshire

Harwich Cultural Center renter, sculptor Roe Osborn shares his experience installing his work Caterpillar Arch VII at the Meredith Sculpture Walk.

“The weather folks were saying Monday would be the hottest day of the year—even in Meredith on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee where my sculpture was to be installed. We’d driven up the day before with the sculpture in the back of my wife’s pickup truck.  The pieces of the sculpture nest nicely inside one another making it a breeze to transport.

I met the installation crew on-site at 9:30 a.m. They had to remove one sculpture before replacing it with mine. Thankfully they did all the hard digging work—in the hot morning sun.  I was lucky to have a large open gazebo structure to assemble the sculpture.
I got the pieces all bolted together while the crew got the precast concrete pad set. We set the sculpture on the pad and positioned it to best resist the gales that typically blow off of the lake in winter storms. When the nuts on the anchor bolts were torqued,  Caterpillar Arch VII was standing on its own.

I am so very honored and awed to have this sculpture as one of the 30 incredible sculptures in the Meredith Sculpture Walk 2021. The location beside the lake is spectacular and definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. The sculpture will be on display until this time next year.”
