HVRA shout out in Toronto development article
The new U of T Spadina Sussex residence taking shape at 698 Spadina - and its adjoining park - are included in a development review in a recent NOW magazine article.  HVRA’s North East rep (and Web Team member) Nick Provart, who was very involved in representing neighbourhood interests, is quoted.

NetZero Survey Needs You!
The HVRA NetZero Committee is still accepting survey submissions.  Your data is critical for the team to be able to plan effectively for its ongoing Home Retrofit and Electric Vehicle projects.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey here.  Feel free to circulate to your friends and neighbours within HV - respondents don’t have to be HVRA members to participate. **We need to get at least 500 responses to have enough data for our projects.** Thanks for your assistance!

Our plow time has come!
It’s official! Council voted 25-1 to approve sidewalk snow clearing in all city neighbourhoods - including HV - starting winter 21-22. Congratulations and thanks again to HVRA South West area rep Bob Stambula for his doggedness in pushing this item through (after decades of official post-amalgamation inaction).  Apparently the answer was tiny plows…!

Bloor Borden Farmers’ Market now open Wednesdays
Green P lot near SW corner of Bloor & Borden
A note from BB market coordinator Terri Chu:

We are open every Wednesday 3-7 pm, RAIN OR SHINE. If the weather gods are unkind, we don't care. We will be there anyway! We are so excited to see our favourite vendors back. Prearranged orders can be picked up at the farmers' stalls.

COVID protocols will be in place. Please follow instructions of our wonderful volunteers and please remember that they are following Toronto Public Health rules so the market can stay vibrant all season. Be patient with us if there are any logical hiccups. Everyone is doing their best to keep this market going. Please do come and support the farmers’ market to make sure it stays an important part of this neighbourhood.

Beware - Porch theft reported on Brunswick
Residents should be aware of at least one porch theft this past week on Brunswick between Ulster and College.

HVRA Board Profiles: Christian Mueller, North West Area Rep

In his own words, our longtime board member Christian:
Living on Brunswick Avenue since 1986 has meant that my wife and I have seen a lot of our neighbours come and go. Some, out of pluck or dumb luck, have stuck around. Like them, we're privileged and fortunate to be living in Harbord Village. To quote my better half: "Favourite homes-away-from-home include The Tranzac Club, Hot Docs Cinema, Koerner Hall, Toronto Public Library, U of T (Hart House, Innis College, Sid Smith, etc.)."

As if pulled by a magnet, I haven't strayed far from the university where I graduated in 1979 with a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. Degree in hand, I came to realize that having an academic career and a home here would be next to impossible. Consequently, I applied my training to the study of something commercially viable -- consumer behaviour! Thus re-invented, I became a gainfully employed marketing researcher. That job lasted 30 years. Now, if not for the pandemic, I would probably be planning a trip somewhere with Mary or looking to attend another live musical event.

Both of us have been fairly active in the community since we retired. In my case, I've been your North West area rep as well as a principal Fall Fair organizer since 2012.

NetZero Committee Needs Design Help
To ensure that all Harbord Village residents are able to take advantage of home energy and transportation bulk purchases, HVRA’s NetZero committee plans to distribute 6-12 flyers over the next 12 months.  What they need are 2-3 volunteers who have an eye for design, and thus are able to help make each flyer attractive enough that recipients will want to read it. No desktop publishing experience or software is needed. They already have one taker, but still need more help!  If you can help 2-3 times a year, please contact Tim Grant at 416-847-1065 or via tim@greenteacher.com

New HV bakery in the news
While the long lines out the door would suggest the new Emmer bakery on Harbord doesn’t need the publicity, we would still like to welcome this new business to the old Boulevard Cafe location. Read more in Toronto Life here.

Kensington Health gala honours its heroes - June 23

Central Tech Community Swim hoping to return in the fall
A note from Fernanda, Pascale, Susan and the CTS Community Swim team:

To our wonderful CTS Community Swim patrons:
This past Victoria Day weekend would have been the last community swim for the 2020-21 season. We really missed seeing you at the CTS pool. We hope that we can restart the community swim at the Central Tech pool in September 2021, or as soon as it is safe to restart the program. The CTS Community Swim continues to follow COVID-19 safety measures and the directive of the TDSB.  We will stay in touch and look forward to seeing you soon. Thank you for your ongoing and tremendous support. Have a great summer! Stay healthy and safe!
