staying connected with the Institute

On April 8, 2021 the ABCD Institute lost one of its very best. After a long battle with cancer, Melissa passed away having spent her last days surrounded with family and friends, sharing love, laughter and tears. She will always be remembered for her innate ability to find the gifts in those around her, her joyful spirit, keen intellect, her wicked sense of humor and endless energy to use her gifts to make this a better world.

Melissa joined the ABCD Institute as a Fellow in 2017. She had been practicing and teaching ABCD for years and brought a tremendous amount of knowledge, energy and experience to the Institute. Melissa devoted much of her time to the ABCD Institute serving on the ABCD Board, heading several Institute trainings, working as a consultant on the Institute of Museums and Library Service grants, and serving on several ABCD working groups.

Faith Communities: How Can Faith Communities Stop Doing "Outreach" and Start Listening to the Caring Community?
June 9 at 9:00 AM CDT |  June 10 at 5:00 PM CDT
Are we hopelessly stuck in modes of doing for others? Have people of faith become consumers of spiritual services? How can faith-based institutions that have come through a year of scarcity thinking put caring people back at the center? Connect with people of all faiths and spiritual beliefs as we explore these questions.

* There will be two Global Gatherings that focus on this question. Please register for only one.

Art/Artists: How can art & artists be a force for connecting neighbors and unleashing the assets of our communities?

July 14 at 5:00 PM CDT  |  July 15 at 9:00 AM CDT

How do art and artists fit into the work of ABCD -- that is, to identify, connect and mobilize the gifts and talents within neighborhoods while reminding everyday people that they have the power to create and lead their own solutions? Join us as we explore the power of art to move us, to connect us, to even start or spread social and political movements.

* There will be two Global Gatherings that focus on this question. Please register for only one.

The ABCD Global Gatherings are a benefit of being a member of ABCD in Action. If you have any questions about joining ABCD in Action, feel free to contact Deb Wisniewski at abcd@abcdinaction.org
