 LUMC Children's Choir Playlist

Even though we spent the year apart, our kids didn't stop singing and praising God together! The Children's Choir (plus a few youth and a couple of pastors) recorded 22 songs, 2 skits, and a Christmas musical. Check out this YouTube play list where you can look back on all of the kids' contributions to worship this past year. It's so fun to relive all of the joy and see how much they've all grown!

 Worship Updates from Pastor Anna

I am confident that you have heard of changing guidance from both the CDC and our local and county health officials for individuals in navigating this ongoing pandemic. While we are heartened by increasing vaccination rates and decreasing Covid19 case rates, we continue to pray for the end of this pandemic. For us, organizationally, we continue to measure our path forward prayerfully and carefully.

Here are our worship plans moving forward:

May 30: We will continue with outdoor worship at 8:30 a.m. and indoor, protocoled worship at 10 a.m. Registration is required for both of these services. Masks are required indoors at all times, even when seated.

Beginning June 6: We will shift our worship services and worship times back to 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

9 a.m. worship:
This service will have robust protocols. Attendance will be limited to 75 people. Registration is required. Seating will be arranged with distance between family units. Masks will be required anytime you are not seated for worship. We ask that those who are unvaccinated continue to use their best judgement for personal and community health. This service will be a bit shorter than an hour, allowing participants enough time to exit the building before the next service attendees begin to arrive. Music for the month of June at this service will alternate leadership from traditional musicians and contemporary musicians.

10:30 a.m. worship:
This service will begin to relax protocols. Again, we ask that those who are unvaccinated use their best judgement for personal and community health, and refrain from removing their mask and refrain from singing. Registration will not be required, and seating will be open. While we will be encouraging and affirming of mask wearing, we will not require masks to be worn. Music for this service for the month of June will be blended (both traditional and contemporary).

It is our hope that July will bring a few more changes to the services, but the time of services is not expected to change. Please also understand that we will walk back some of these transitions if the Covid19 situation worsens or guidance from public health officials changes.

Groups/Meetings: We are beginning to allow our regular groups/meetings to utilize indoor building space. Please be advised that all groups/meetings must submit space usage requests, even if you have not done this previously. Because we have relocated and shifted so much over the past year and a half, we want to make sure that we can all have the space, safety, and resources we need. To inquire about building/space usage, please contact Shelby Elliott in the office (selliott@linworthumc.org).

 An Opportunity to Serve

Now that we are able to worship in person once again, we are in need of folks who would like to extend warm hospitality to those who enter the doors of our church.  If you are interested in serving as a greeter at either the 9:00 or 10:30 worship services, contact Brenda Loar at bloar4@gmail.com.  In your message please indicate whether you attend the 9:00 or 10:30 service.  Thank you!

 Stephen Ministry

Where Does Stephen Ministry Get Its Name?

In Acts 6, we are told that the number of believers were multiplying rapidly, and the disciples spent much of their time dealing with discontented people and individuals who felt they were being discriminated against. For example, these included widows and those that didn’t have enough food.

The disciples decided they should spend more of their time preaching, teaching, and in prayer, so they selected seven men to handle the daily business of administering to others. These men were wise, well thought of by everyone, and full of the Holy Spirit. Stephen, one of the seven, was unusually strong in faith and did spectacular miracles among the people. Stephen was later falsely accused of speaking against Moses and God and was stoned to death by the Jewish leaders. Stephen Ministry is named for Stephen—one of the first laypeople commissioned by the apostles to care for the community.

The pastors at Linworth UMC, as well as in other congregations, cannot care for all of its members individually on a regular basis. The task was challenging to do so before the pandemic. With the protocols of COVID19 in place, along with the need for social distancing, caregiving has become even more difficult.

Stephen helped to meet the growing needs of the early church. In the same way, Stephen Ministry expands the caring capacity of congregations. As Stephen shared the spirit of Jesus, Stephen Ministers bring Christ’s healing love to those who are hurting.

If you would like to talk with a Stephen Minister or are interested in possibly becoming a Stephen Minister, please click here to submit your inquiry, or contact the church office at (614) 336-8485.
