The Town Of Sylva Will Host A Downtown Sylva Sidewalk Sale It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 12. Shane Meade will be performing from noon to 2 p.m. in the town parking lot by the First Baptist Church. The Jackson Arts Market (JAM) will have music from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be 20 participating businesses. Eat, shop and enjoy the day. www.mountainlovers.com.

Nantahala Bicycle Club Rally will be held on Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live radio coverage as well as a ribbon cutting/grand opening for the under-the-bridge greenway connector.

Macon County Art Association Veteran’s Portrait Project will be held this year.  Spots are open for four to seven veterans as applications remained from 2019.  Macon County veterans or their family members can apply to have the veteran’s portrait painted by a local artist at the gallery between Memorial Day and July 4. There is no cost to apply or for the portraits.  The only requirement is that the veteran or their family member be present to receive the portrait on Veterans Day.  Community members who wish to help support the costs for this program are also welcome.  For more information, email at karen@programservices.org.

Farmer’s Market (with artisans) will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays through October at 117 Island Street in Bryson City. Hiking:

Nantahala Hiking Club will Hike Black Rock off The Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday, June 13, 11 a.m. Total Distance is 4.8 miles, rating S.  For more information, details or reservations, call Leader Laura Lauffer (919)444-1478. 

Holly Springs Baptist Church, 2nd Mile Ministry is open 10 to Noon Mondays providing a food pantry, children's clothes and financial aid (rent and utilities) for families and seniors in need. 

Friends of the Greenway  FROG Quarters is now open Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to  2 p.m.,  at 573 E. Main in Franklin. Stop by for coffee or a soft drink and a snack, use our free internet.  You can also reserve the shelters for your events there.

Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Centers in Cullowhee and Franklin have an educational parenting program to earn “points” to use to obtain free items for your family. The centers carry formula, diapers, wipes, baby items and clothing up to size 6, as well as strollers, car seats, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc. Donations are always welcome. CareNet on Bidwell Street will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A box of food may be picked up once a week.

Uptown Gallery on Main Street new hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Five Fire Departments in Macon County – Nantahala, Cullasaja, Sky Valley, Clarks Chapel, and Burningtown – are open Monday thru Fridays for drive up food deliveries from 1 to 4 p.m. for anyone who needs food.

Employment assistance is offered by NC Works Career Center from 1:30-4 p.m. on the first Friday of every month at Marianna Black Library in Bryson City. 488.3030 or

Macon County Public Health is currently vaccinating those eligible under Groups 4. People in Group 4  are those who have a medical condition that puts them at higher risk of serious illness and people who live in certain congregate settings are eligible for vaccination. The rest of Group 4, which includes all other essential workers and all adults will become eligible April 7. Individuals that want to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, must call Macon County’s Vaccine Call Center at (828)524-1500 to register and schedule an appointment. The Call Center is open Monday – Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Gospel Conversations Training Conference: Tom Ford is coordinating this Free Gospel Conversations Conference on March 6 from 8:30 to 4:30. A boxed lunch will be provided in the Fellowship Hall. This hands-on interactive training includes practice of all the tools with an option to engage people in your community as we pray for laborers to be mobilized for the mission.
