An Invitation to Attend in Person or via Zoom

An Evening with Christian Cooper

Christian Cooper in Conversation:
Celebrating the Diversity of Birds and People

The Freeport Art Museum, Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, Great Lakes Audubon, and the Boys and Girls Club of Stephenson County would like to reserve a seat for you to see and hear Christian Cooper at the King Center in Freeport on June 16th at 6:30 p.m.

Christian Cooper is a writer and a board member of New York City Audubon. After a video of a racist confrontation while he was birding in Central Park went viral, he drew on that experience to author the Black Lives Matter comic “It’s a Bird” for DC Comics. That continued his decades-long activism on behalf of racial justice, LGBTQ equality, and expanding democratic access in American society.

Christian Cooper has graciously accepted an invitation to visit Freeport and share his enthusiasm for birding with the young people at the Boys and Girls Club and the community. During his visit, there will be a donation of binoculars to the Club to begin a birdwatching group.

Besides his lifelong excitement for birding, Christian has been a dedicated advocate for equality and inclusivity. On the evening of June 16th, he will speak from his experience in promoting social justice and anti-racism as part of that critical conversation concerning equity and inclusion throughout the United States.

We hope very much to see you there in person or via zoom.

Sincerely,
The Freeport Art Museum, Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, Audubon Great Lakes, and the Boys and Girls Club of Stephenson County.
