Our amazing building cleaner, Mary Murphy, has been staffing our front desk this summer.  Tomorrow she will have surgery and will be out of commission for some weeks.  However, Paul Lee will begin his service as our director part-time tomorrow, and shift to full-time on July 12.  Our official office hours will remain 10 am to 2 pm.  Get well soon Mary, and welcome aboard Paul.

The exciting news this week is we learned who are two new FOCUS missionaries will be:  Sarah and Jake.  They are with our returning missionaries, Whitney and Dan, in Bismark doing formation this summer.  In their picture, they look like a lot of fun, and potentially even a bit holy.  Welcome Sarah and Jake!

This weekend I will be doing our appeal next door at Blessed Sacrament parish.  Their pastor, Fr. Tony Kruse, and I are switching places.  Please welcome Fr. Kruse on Sunday.

All the best,

Fr. Jon

Welcome to our new FOCUS Missionaries!

Meet Jake Freitas!
"My name is Jake Freitas and I hail from Joplin, MO. I attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO and I studied Mathematics. I am a mediocre juggler, an avid water skier and I love breakfast foods more than I probably should. I am very excited to step into a Catholic community, to live life and seek the lost with you all!"

Meet Sarah Sandoz!
"My name is Sarah Sandoz! I am from Long Beach, MS (not Cali) down on the Mississippi gulf coast. I studied Elementary Education at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. I love hiking, camping, and watching sunsets! I am so excited to get to know all of the students and to grow closer to Christ with each of you! I am also excited for the cold weather!"

Note from the Archbishop:
Earlier this year, it was communicated that, when the COVID vaccines were available to anyone who wants it, at that time the standing “pandemic” permissions would expire.

As we have hailed that happy day, beginning the weekend of 5-6 June 2021

1)    Catholics in the Archdiocese of Dubuque are once again obliged to participate in Mass on Sundays and other Holy Days of Obligation.

Sunday Mass in church, avoiding unnecessary labor, and doing good deeds are the ways Catholics obey the Third Commandment: Keep holy the Sabbath.

Catholics can legitimately excuse themselves from Sunday Mass, if they are:
·       Afraid of getting the COVID from people outside their household
·       Afraid of traveling to church because of bad weather
·       Frail from age or illness
·       Taking care of someone sick or homebound, or an infant
·       Without means to get to the church for Mass
·       Scheduled to work at the times when Mass is celebrated
Basically, there is no sin in missing Mass if I would go if I could go, but I can’t due to circumstances outside my control.
