AMAZON SIDEWALK IS FREAKING US OUT
Imagine you run out of the house to your favorite local wine shop, only to get an alert that someone is at your door. That sounds pretty standard these days thanks to your handy, secure, privately-connected home devices.

But what if all of the sudden you're enrolled in an open source, but publicly hidden network where everyone in your neighborhood is connected to one blanket Wifi connection wherever they go?

Enter Amazon Spy—err we mean Sidewalk—an interconnected, large-scale, public mesh network that blankets entire "neighborhoods" by leveraging bluetooth and radio signals from all of those friendly Amazon devices like ring doorbells, tile trackers, smart lights, smart garage door openers, etc. In other words, we just secured our future wine club shipments for P.O. Box only.

Remember the good old days of making a spare key for your neighbor so they had access to your house in case of emergency? That's the energy we're going for. This week, we welcomed our neighbors into our house (sans Amazon) for some great wine and conversation. And we pulled some shareable favorites from our very open and accessible wine rack. Here are 5 Wines To Share With Your Spare Key Neighbor.
WHAT WE'RE DRINKING
01   2019 Lionel Faury Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah

Syrah from Rhone, FR 🇫🇷
wine.com | $24.99

Funky and juicy with anise liqueur extract and leftover beef bones, I gave it a little chill to accentuate those perky black cherry and meaty flavors. What resulted is a punched-up, black fruited licorice bomb that drinks clean with a salty briny finish. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s funkadelic and laced with major flavor, lithe texture, and medium acid. A solid entry-level Syrah from a renowned producer.   8.0

02   2016 Pasquale Pelissero Cascina Crosa Barbaresco

Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, IT 🇮🇹
wine.com | $36.99

Your neighbor prefers an old fashioned over wine? Look no further than this high end DOCG classification from Pasquale Pelissero. Like a smoky old fashioned with Barbaresco tones of tar, rose, burnt orange, and some raw tobacco, this wine is like an essential oil for the modern man. The tannins are persistent and drying. No frivolity or subtlety required. It drinks tight with orange zest and earthiness and then permeates with sour berries for a biting finish.  8.1

03   2017 Ehlers Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, CA 🇺🇸
wine.com | $54.99

Your neighbor is a big cab guy. He sorts through the common grocery store variety of Napa Cabernet. Time to up his game with this sneaky sleeper from Ehlers Estate. Inky dark purple with prime Cabernet aromas of warm cassis, blackberries, purple flowers, and some oak, this is a clutch entry-level Napa Cab that always delivers. The drink is liquefied blackberries and raspberries, with creamy dark chocolate that helps it glide seamlessly on the palate. Ultra smooth with fine tannins and rounded texture, it's rich but not over the top. Instead, it stays clean and fruity with a line of juicy freshness on the close. Organically farmed. Can’t go wrong.   8.2

 04   2020 D'Alfonso Curran Grüner Veltliner

Gruner Veltliner from Sta Rita Hills, CA 🇺🇸
vivino.com | $23.99

Your neighbor lives on Savvy B and rarely explores outside her comfort zone. This brand new release from Santa Barbara's D'Alfonso Curran gave us all the feels and needs to be shared with her. Bright and zesty with green herbaceousness and fresh squeezed limes. Green bell pepper and grapefruit too. This wine bursts on the palate with heightened levels of lemons, limes, and the perfect juicy crunch of a Granny Smith apple. The Cali sun provides a great round mouthfeel here with zippy acid and spicy peppers on the finish. Perfectly in stride, this could easily be your Sauv Blanc summer replacement. Loved it.   8.3

05   2018 Roserock Oregon Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir from Eola-Amity, OR 🇺🇸
wine.com | $29.99

If your neighbor happens to be of French heritage, or just a Francophile in general and strictly drinks Burgundy, you can guarantee they wont be mad about a wine from Joseph Drouhin. This Pinot Noir from Drouhin's Oregon operation is hitting on all cylinders. When we seek out crowd pleasing wines at righteous price points, this is what we're looking for. From the warmer 2018 vintage, you get bright florals and cool freshness upfront intermixed with a hint of spice, and dominant sweet dark cherry fruit underneath. Mouthfuls of ripe cherries and dried blueberries are working together in a co-living environment, with firm dusty tannins that spread wide across the tongue, and a lively cranberry tang that pops off on the finish. Case worthy.   8.3

IF YOU DONT KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW

Eric Jensen's Booker Wines in Paso Robles created a label called My Favorite Neighbor as an homage to his mentor (and actual neighbor) Stephan Asseo of L'Aventure. What started as a neighborly joke—Stephan would call his new pal and open with "hey it's your favorite neighbor"—eventually became the idea for a wine. In 2006, Jensen bottled a Cabernet-based blend to honor Asseo's Bordeuax heritage. Ever since, the term has grown to include an array of owner/winemakers on Paso Robles' west side who all share the same vision for the community and region.
