Corporate + Cultural Gifts

At the start of this year we began working with Aunty Jennifer 'Lulu' Coombes to support her to grow her collection of cultural gifts. We connected her with Keiora Candles, leading to the launch of a new range of eco friendly candles, and following the success of that collection, we are celebrating the launch of her new range of eco friendly tea towels.
Made in Australia by KE Designs from organic cotton (recycled) and supporting employment for people with special needs, this is truly a one-of-a-kindness collaboration. Lulu features two designs: Pukamani and Pamajini.
If you are looking for corporate or cultural gifts that celebrate the tropical north, then visit our Darwin store or shop our online store www.starwin.com.au There are just 10 in each design so be quick to get yours.

Cultural Experiences

Jobs Australia host a convention in Darwin from 16 - 17 June, a gathering of CDP service practitioners. In support of their event, we have sourced local talent, with Timmy Duggan as a guest speaker and David Spry to provide entertainment with an acoustic set for the event.

Here is a bit more about Timmy:
'Timmy Duggan is a local born and bred Darwin man with family connections to the Warramungu people of Central Australia and the Nykinya people of the Kimberley. Timmy has a Diploma of Youth and Community Development from RMIT University, and is the first person from the Northern Territory to play in the National Basketball League. He founded “Hoops 4 Health”, a health-education program using basketball as a vehicle to encourage youth to make healthy lifestyle choices. Further advocacy for young people is facilitated by Timmy with weekend programs in the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre. He is also managing the Mundine: Mindset of a Champ Program.'

We look forward to the delegates learning more from the experiences of local Indigenous talent and enjoying their experience in Darwin. If you have an event coming up and keen to include cultural experiences, e: karina@starwin.com.au to see how we can collaborate.

Career Pathways + Youth Leadership

We are committed to developing young leaders and creating career pathways for women to do what they love, where they love.
Over two years ago as part of our Career Pathways initiatives, we formed a partnership with Youthworx NT to provide an entry point into the workforce in Darwin for young school leavers. Kyemma came to us, initially as an intern and then she stepped into a part time role, with mentorship and support.
An early school leaver and new to Darwin, after relocating from Alice Springs, Kyemma has always embraced the opportunity to learn and showed a maturity beyond her years.
During our shut down and slow down time in the pandemic we missed out on the opportunity to continue the program. We are so happy to say with the support of our Darwin community and visitors, we are growing our team in Darwin again.
It's been wonderful to welcome Kyemma back to work this year. She has stepped site leader role and of her own initiative has started making up some creative designs. We have now supported her to create a professional profile and an instagram account to share her journey.
