HCQ Updates

HCQ TV - it's a wrap!

Eighteen panellists, four episodes, four topics, one focus: working together to make healthcare the best it can be.

Thank you to everyone (610 views so far) who tuned in to our inaugural webcast series: Sharing Power: Co-design with consumers for impact and equity during 25 May – 3 June.

Our Annual Forums are renowned for bringing together expertise across consumer partnerships and whilst we could not meet face-to-face this year, we were delighted to still be able to bring you together with inspiring consumer and carer representatives, health staff and NGO staff representing consumers and carers to discuss what it takes to truly share decision-making power.

Remove the barriers to dental care in rural and remote areas

Closing date: 9am, Friday 18 June 2021

Do you live in a rural and remote part of Queensland?
  1. What are the barriers that prevent you from accessing dental care?
  2. What other challenges or issues impact on your oral health if you live in a rural or remote community?
The Department of Health is seeking health consumers and carers living in rural and remote locations of Queensland to participate in a number of focus groups about your dental care and oral health in late June/early July.

By identifying the unique issues you face, you will contribute to a new Queensland Health Rural and Remote Oral Health Services Strategy and be able to have your say about what needs to happen and who needs to be involved in the development of the strategy e.g. public health services, non-government organisations, private sector, community groups, education sector.

Call for submissions Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021

Submissions due Friday 2 July 2021 at 9:00am

On Tuesday 25 May 2021, the Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier and Minister for Trade, introduced the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 (Bill). The Bill is part of a long and considered process to weigh up whether Queenslanders who are dying should have a choice over the time and circumstances of their death.

The main purposes of the Bill are to:
  • give persons who are suffering and dying, and who meet eligibility criteria, the option of requesting medical assistance to end their lives
  • establish a lawful process for eligible persons to exercise that option
  • establish safeguards to:
    • ensure that the process is accessed only by persons who are assessed to be eligible
    • protect vulnerable persons from coercion and exploitation
    • provide legal protection for health practitioners who choose to assist, or not to assist, persons to exercise the option of ending their lives in accordance with the Act, and
    • establish a Voluntary Assisted Dying Review Board and other mechanisms to ensure compliance with the Act.
Anyone is welcome to make a submission on any aspect of the bill.

Help drive the health equity agenda forward for First Nations consumers

Soon, all Hospital and Health Services will be required (by legislation) to partner with First Nations peoples and health sector stakeholders to implement local health strategies. The Health Equity Strategies and other reforms being proposed through the health equity reform agenda provide a roadmap to enable local health systems to better respond to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

You are invited to attend regional consultation forums to discuss the health equity agenda and other suggestions to drive the agenda forward and improve the social determinants of health.  You can also provide a written response.

Coming up:
  • 9.00am-12.30pm Friday 4 June: South East Queensland (incl. West Moreton, Metro South, Metro North, Gold Coast and Children’s Health Queensland HHS)
  • Friday 11 June: Final online validation session (open to all participants)
