Volunteering Interest Group in the European Parliament

On 14 July, the EP VIG will have a joint online meeting with the Interest Group on “Solidarity Between Generations” (supported by Age Platform), attended by MEPs, MEP assistants and other stakeholders to discuss the proposed European Platform for older people volunteering. Register here.

EV Capital 2021 Berlin - Innovation Contest

With the innovation contest, it was shown what innovative ways and concepts can improve volunteering in the digital world. Whether with clever campaigns or new ways of executing commitment innovatively, participants focused their attention on forms that rethink and implement volunteering while also strengthening social cohesion. Check out the winners here.

EV Capital 2021 Berlin - Celebrating European Neighbours Day on 28 May

Several activities and events around Berlin took place, a Video greeting message by Sawsan Chebli, Permanent Secretary for Civic Engagement and International Affairs was published. More info here.

Blueprint for European Volunteering 2030 - a contribution towards implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights

On 29 June (9:00-11:30 WEST), join us for the online discussion in the context of the 4th Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This event is co-organised with CEV members CPV - the Portuguese Confederation of Volunteering, CASES - the António Sérgio Cooperative for the Social Economy. WISH

The WISH platform counts with more than 100 volunteer-involving organizations from 23 different countries across Europe and all over the world. The initiatives that are in the platform offer services such as legal advice, psychological assistance or languages support to asylum seekers and refugees. Submit your initiative here.

Tandem - now possible online

Tandem is an initiative to get refugees, asylum seekers and organisations working and learning, working and growing together. Tandem was set up in 2016 to help and support refugees and asylum-seekers residing in Belgium, with the aim of providing a possibility for them to contribute to the community, and support the restoration of their dignity and autonomy through volunteer placements. Organisations can take part in supporting integration and making a meaningful contribution at the local level, while developing links with the home countries of the refugees and asylum seekers. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, CEV has been working on updating Tandem to the latest standards on safety measures and it is now possible to take part in online volunteering opportunities. ERNOP Science and Society Seminars

On 22 June (10-11 CEST), join us for the ‘’Developing indicators of stress for charitable organisations’’ webinar, part of the ERNOP Online Seminars-Series 2021. The COVID19 crisis has led to considerable concerns about the financial risks facing voluntary organisations, but it lacks a firm evidence base about the nature of those risks.  How do we know which organisations are most vulnerable to reductions in funding of various kinds? What sort of organisations have had a funding trajectory that indicates vulnerability? All these questions will be raised during the discussion and others from the audience. Volunteering Infrastructure Publication - Denmark

An updated, 2021 version of the Danish chapter is now available. This publication looks at the situation and context of volunteering with each chapter focussing on one country, with the research being supported by CEV member organisations in the relevant countries, CEV staff and UEA Erasmus plus trainees.

Volunteering in Events ToolKit  - New Languages

This ToolKit, to  help local authorities, event organisers, volunteering organisations and potential volunteers follow good practice in event volunteering and keep solidarity at  the heart of it, is now available in Slovenian, thanks to the support of CEV member Slovenska filantropija - find all versions here.

Guidelines for Online Volunteering - New Languages

These guidelines are aimed at organisations and anyone leading an initiative who is considering – or actively engaging – online volunteers. Now available in Slovenian, thanks to the support of CEV member Slovenska filantropija.

Goodbye & Thank you to Bianca and welcome Delaram and Meron

In May CEV said goodbye to our trainee from Italy (university traineeship programme), Bianca Guberti. We thank her for all her contributions and wish her the best in the future! You can find an interview conducted at the closing of her traineeship here. Delaram Rezaeikhonakdar joined our team as a volunteer (17 May - 31 August 2021), coming from KU Leuven. She will assist with the Volpris project.  Meron Mengesha joined in June to support the CSO Convention for the Future of Europe Cluster on “Our European Life” co-chaired by CEV and Volonteurope.  Find out more about our team here.

CEV General Assembly - 17 May
 
The 2021 CEV General Assembly is being held in two separate sessions. The first session was hosted online on 17 May. Delegates from the Member organisations actively participated in the discussions especially on the draft ‘’Blueprint for European Volunteering 2030’’, ‘’CEV Draft Membership Development Strategy 2022-2026’’ and on some important updates for the CEV statute and internal rules.

Draft Blueprint for European Volunteering 2030

The Draft Blueprint (#BEV2030) is available for feedback and reactions until July 15th 2021. The final updated version will be approved by the CEV GA on 14 September 2021 and then it will be available for wider endorsement by stakeholders and partners. Read it here.

CERV Civil Dialogue Week

On 25 May, Gabriella Civico, CEV Director, spoke at the Policy Debate - Group 4: Citizens’ engagement alongside Marie-Hélène Boulanger - Head of the Unit "Union citizenship rights and free movement", European Commission; Łukasz Kohut - Member of the European Parliament, CULT committee, shadow rapporteur CERV and Frédéric Vallier - Secretary General of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). The event was organised by the European Commission (DG JUST and the Executive Agency EACEA) on  the occasion of the launching of the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme 2021-2027. EESC Liaison Group Meeting

On 19 May, Gabriella Civico, CEV Director took part in the meeting to discuss the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Democracy Action Plan, European Semester and the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).

Civil Society Convention  for the Future of Europe - Cluster Meetings

On 18 May, Gabriella Civico, CEV Director, co-chaired  the “Our European Life” cluster Kick-Off Meeting together with Piotr Sadowski from Volonteurope as part of the Civil Society Convention on the Future of Europe, coordinated by Civil Society Europe. CEV is represented in the Convention by Nicolo Triacca from CSVnet in the Thematic Cluster “Our European Life”. CEV is also represented by Lejla Šehić Relic (CEV President) in the Thematic Cluster “Union's democratic Foundations” and by Anu VIltrop (CEV Vice-President) in the Thematic Cluster ‘’Fighting climate change and environmental challenges”. Civil Society Convention  for the Future of Europe -  Plenary

On 7 June, Gabriella Civico took part in the Plenary as a member of the Steering Committee and representative of CEV,  where main topics were reviewing the first results of the thematic clusters, working groups meetings and identification of convergent themes. There was also a discussion on proposals on how to involve national members of the Convention networks. Finally, the members discussed the strategy of the Convention towards the Conference on the Future of Europe mechanisms: the plenary and the conference as well as key demands for the follow up process of the Conference.

On 7 June, CEV took part in the  high level panel debate with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Dubravka Šuica, and the MEPs Helmut Scholz and Daniel Freund, as well as a dialogue with the Conference Secretariat on the Conference online Platform and of the citizens panels. MyPromise - Kick Off Meeting

On 27 May, CEV took part in the Kick Off meeting of a new project ‘’MyPromise: Boosting Grassroots Sport and Sport Volunteering in Europe’’. It is an Erasmus+ project (2021-2022) to reach and activate in sports currently inactive population using an innovative and scalable “one-for-one” personal approach. Find out more here.

Volpris - Transnational Partners Meeting and June’s Discussion Forum


On 2 June the Volpris Erasmus+ project Partners met for their transnational partners meeting online. During the meeting, partners discussed the project development, focusing especially on the preparation and implementation of the Online Training for Volunteering in Prison Coordinators. #EYVplus10 Blog

CEV published a special episode on the #EYVplus10 blog series on International Children’s Day. The blog features Petra, a volunteer from Berlin, #EVCapital 2021, who, through her volunteering service, supports children of refugees to receive quality education in Germany. Read Petra’s story here.

Podcast - “Let’s Talk Volunteering (EU)”

In this episode of CEV´s podcast we talked about volunteering with Fernanda Freitas, an ambassador of volunteering in Europe and a key contributor to the European Year of Volunteering 2011. A media person by profession, Fernanda shares her thoughts on what the media can do to further the impact of volunteering in communities across Europe. You can listen to the episode here.

Volpower Conference

On 10 June, Lejla Šehić Relić, CEV President, spoke at the Roundtable on “Volunteering Youth and Empowering Social Integration in Europe: Problems and Challenges of Volunteerism” organised by the Volpower Erasmus+ project where CEV member Volunteer Scotland and CEV Board member George Thomson as Volpower advisory board member also contributed as a speaker. UK National Volunteer Week

It took place 1-7 June 2021. It's a chance to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and say thank you. The Volunteer Week was organised and supported by CEV Members, Volunteer Scotland and NCVO. More info here.

Slovenian National Volunteer Week

On 22 May, Slovenska Filantropija held a one day festival ‘’Happy day of volunteering’’ as part of their National Volunteer Week, dedicated to the volunteering organisations - to meet, greet and celebrate volunteering and to thank them for everything they do. This year they published a magazine - best volunteering stories. It includes interviews and inspiring stories from volunteers around Slovenia. It was distributed in over 50 Slovenian cities, towns, villages. More info here.

‘’Volunteering & solidarity as a social capital of the city’’

On 28 May, Gabriella Civico, CEV Director Gabriella Civico presented the European Volunteering Capital competition (#EVCapital), co-financed by the Europe for Citizens programme, as part of the final session of an online conference organised by the City of Ljubljana and CEV member Slovenska Filantropija, and was then broadened and fine-tuned in cooperation with the Slovenian NA and European Solidarity Corps Resource Centre. On 10 December, CESES will organise a roundtable for the ‘’European senior Volunteering through mentoring for the social inclusion of Young people in difficulties’’ Erasmus+ project. This closing event will present the outcomes of the project. More info here.

Public consultation: Updated Council Recommendation of Cross Border Mobility of Young Volunteers

Share your ideas on how EU countries can make it easier for young people taking part in volunteering projects in countries other than their own and therefore requiring cross border travel. Find more here.

Updating the 2015 European Guidelines for validating non-formal and informal learning

The European Commission and Cedefop are currently updating the European guidelines for validating non-formal and informal learning that were first developed in 2009. The 2021 update of the guidelines aims at keeping the guidelines relevant in the context of current and future developments such the digital and green transitions and the Covid-19 pandemic. To support the update of the Guidelines, stakeholders and validation practitioners are invited to complete a survey that can be found here

EESC Civil Society Prize 2021

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has opened applications for its Civil Society Prize 2021. Choosing climate action as the theme, the EESC will select the winners from creative and innovative initiatives which aim to promote a just transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. Applications can be submitted by all civil society organisations officially registered within the European Union and acting at local, regional, national or European level. The prize is also open to individuals who reside in the EU. Find more here.

Response to the public consultation on the EU Green Paper on Ageing

AGE Platform Europe responded to the public consultation of the European Commission on the EU Green Paper on Ageing with their own publication. This document also includes an Age Equality Strategy as an annex. On page 9, you can find answers on volunteering and  intergenerational contacts.
