Upgrading Our Standards

Luke 6:38 (NASB®)
“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”

Several years ago Kathy, my parents, and I were in Kenya for a pastors conference. The conclusion was a Sunday morning worship service followed by lunch. They escorted us to a table for their special guests, set with plates and utensils and a soft drink at every spot. As we watched the others being served, we realized that we were the only ones with utensils. It was one of the more humbling moments of my life because I realized they had given us their very, very best. I’ve had some exquisite meals in my life, with more utensils than I knew what to do with. But I don’t think I’ve ever had a finer meal because I’ve never been served with greater sacrifice than that day. “Give, and it will be given back to you,” Jesus said. I am grateful to those people for teaching me a lesson that I hope I never forget.

THINK ABOUT IT
We serve a God of abundance. We are the ones who place limitations on His storehouses and His blessings into our lives. Humbly thank Him for His abundance, and tell Him you are ready to both give and receive without limitation.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I believe Your Word about my standard of measure determining the measure returned to me. Forgive me when my measure was limited by my own perspective rather than Your truth. Transform my thinking where necessary that I might possess a giving heart with giving hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Blessings,
