In the final week that the Legislative Assembly will sit until November, the Green Caucus asked the government about renewing relations with First Nations, electoral reform, the government’s rental review and the overnight closure of the Sackville Memorial Hospital emergency room on weekends this summer.
What David said:
After identifying the pressing need to reset the relationship with First Nations, David asked the premier if he supports the special sitting of the Legislature to hear from First Nation leaders.
With the rise of heinous and shameful crimes on Jewish and Muslim communities, David reminded everyone that we must listen, learn, and call out hate when they hear it.
During question period, David asked the Premier why the emergency room in Sackville will be closed at night on weekends during the summer, breaking the promise the Premier made last year to Sackville and other rural communities.
What Kevin said:
This week, Kevin highlighted that the government's inaction on issues like the environment, housing and an important shift in economic and social policy is leaving many New Brunswickers and entire generations behind.
During question period, Kevin asked the Premier if he was going to work towards implementing a Proportional Representation voting system in New Brunswick, pointing out that the process is currently undemocratic, unfair, and unrepresentative.
Kevin also urged the government to ensure that people have access to paid leave to get their COVID-19 vaccine.
Kevin raised concern about the government's upcoming bill that will allow individual and corporate donations to the Municipal Police Assistance Fund.
Later in the week, Kevin pointed out that seventy stenographers, who have been without a contract since 2016, have reached an impasse in their negotiations. Stenographers and workers in New Brunswick deserve respect and fairness.
