Pipistrel Alpha Electro

Before ZK-EAL flies for the first time in the North Island, Koro Don and other members of the Puketapu hapū will perform a blessing to welcome the aircraft at 12:30pm this Friday. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony.

On Friday 18 June we have invited over 80 local and central Government politicians, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and MBIE and stakeholders in Paraparaumu to a Future of Flying event to be held at the club.  During that event, guests will be introduced to the Pipistrel Alpha Electro and its capabilities and how electric aviation is rapidly evolving will be presented.  Other advances in unmanned flight will also be presented and discussed.  This is an ideal opportunity for the club to demonstrate that we’re a forward-thinking club and taking our emissions and noise responsibilities seriously as we operate within a growing community.  If you’d like to attend please contact Liz Jackson at the club to let her know of your interest.

You have the opportunity to be among the first pilots in New Zealand to fly an electric aircraft and experience the different way it’s operated.  Make a booking and come along to get a new and exciting type (“PIAE”) in your logbook. Charges are $75/hr for the aeroplane and $75/hr for the instructor for KDAC members. Non-members rates are slightly higher.

Pilot Night: IFR and Helicopter Ops at PP Explained

Thursday July 1st, 7pm

Most VFR fixed-wing pilots at Paraparam have shared the circuit with incoming IFR traffic and helicopters.

Ever wonder what all those IFR calls mean? Or why the helicopter circuit seems shorter and lower than the fixed-wing one?

Our next pilot night will explain all the ins and outs of IFR and Helicopter operations at PP for fixed-wing pilots. It will help you understand where the IFR approaches into the airport are located and what we should do to ensure adequate separation. You'll also learn how helicopter operations around the circuit differ from fixed-wing.

Medicals with Frank

THIS WEEKEND

A Class 1/2 Medical is still a requirement if you intend to undertake Aerobatics, IFR or Night XC Training. If you are just starting out and want to continue your training towards a CPL, it is also recommended you do your first medical to Class 1 standard. Fly by Wire Business Opportunity

Fly by Wire Kāpiti Ltd are seeking a highly motivated person to operate their Extreme Fly by Wire Ride at Paekākāriki.  The ride will be leased and the successful applicant will operate the ride as a separate limited liability company.

Full training will be given to operate the ride activity, see the 40 second Stuff video

The new operator will require the following skills:

1) Mechanics experience with two stroke motors and other mechanical equipment.
2) The skills to safely operate an extreme ride activity and perform required maintenance.
3) The ability to work with Fly by Wire guest pilots and put them at ease.
4) Business skills to run a small business operation with safety reporting as required.

This is the only Fly by Wire Ride operating anywhere in the world.  Though Covid-19 has stopped foreign tourism, the New Zealand market is providing steady guest pilot numbers.  The ride will operate at weekends until demand grows in October and team-building groups start booking. Australian tourists are also starting to add to the numbers as the only country they can presently visit is New Zealand.

This is an opportunity to own your own business with very little capital outlay in the exciting area of extreme tourism.
Tony's Weekend Weather

A high over New Zealand will be slowly squeezed out over the weekend as a low and it’s accompanying cold front push onto the country. Initially on Saturday there’ll be good weather (apart from the usual anticyclonic low cloud and inland fogs) under the high, but by the end of the day rain will be spreading onto Fiordland. Rain will spread over the remainder of the West Coast Sunday morning and reach Taranaki and Cook Strait by evening. Although the front itself won't affect the North Island significantly on Sunday, the northeasterlies ahead of it are likely to bring cloud and showers from Northland to East Cape.

After some morning cloud and possible drizzle, Saturday should turn into a good day in Kāpiti with northerlies around 10kts. Sunday will be cloudier, with stronger northerlies, but should remain mostly dry until about ECT.
Safety Message

Safety in the apron is everyone's responsibility. When you are taxiing in the apron, be mindful to keep your speed very slow (not any faster than a normal walking pace). There is a high risk of collision and/or injury due to the close proximity to other aircraft and the potential of distracted people walking around.

Likewise, avoid remaining on the tie-downs with the engine running for long periods of time. People will need to walk close to your aircraft to get to theirs putting them at risk of your prop and prop-wash.

How are we doing?

As part of our future plans for the clubs website and various marketing platforms we are looking for you, our valued club members, to write a review or leave a thumbs up.
