Dear friends, 

It is my great pleasure to share that approximately 45 of our neighbors will soon have stable shelter and a path to permanent housing. The popular and highly-successful Safe Harbor Tiny House Village located in Interbay is going to add 30 more tiny houses thanks to a partnership between the Port of Seattle and the City as part of my office’s It Takes A Village initiative. I had the pleasure of touring Safe Harbor last week and meeting with former residents who use that opportunity to stabilize their lives and now live in their own apartments. 

These tiny houses are a key part of our strategy to housing people and getting rid of the encampments we see in Seattle. Regular readers of my newsletter are very familiar with the successful JustCARE program. JustCARE service providers are hard at work right now on 3rd Ave downtown helping folks with high-acuity barriers to housing get services such as mental health and addiction treatment so they have the resources they need to stabilize their lives, and downtown sidewalks and storefronts can be clear for pedestrians. 

I know this is our best way to support people in crisis and our best method for reclaiming public space, which is why I plan to pass legislation on Monday to provide immediate support to expand this program. This legislation has broad support from my colleagues on the City Council, from the Downtown Seattle Association, from the Chamber of Commerce, and other interested parties. 

Queen Anne Farmers Market 

Thank you to all the constituents who visited with me during the Queen Anne Farmers Market on Thursday. I will be there again from 4-6 p.m. or later on Thursday, June 17th and I hope to get to all of my neighborhood farmers markets over the course of this summer. 

Rental Assistance 

This month on June 30th, 2021 Governor Inslee and Mayor Durkan’s moratoriums on residential evictions will expire. As we enter into recovery and economic revitalization, there is no doubt that after effects and impacts of COVID-19 on our community will extend beyond the end of this month. Leaving many of our neighbors and friends vulnerable to losing their housing.  Please see the following resources if you or anyone you know anyone is at risk of being displaced.

King County Eviction Prevention and Rental Assistance Program  

The next round of rental assistance is now available, apply today by clicking here. If language assistance is needed please contact 206-477-1331. Resources are available for paying past, current, and future rent.  

Solid Ground 

Solid Ground’s Tenant Services will be hosting a webinars on June 10th, 15th, 17, 24th, 29th from 2-4:30pm to prepare tenants for the end of the eviction moratorium. You will hear presentations on accessing rental assistance, legal aid, meditation, and payment plans.
