Wilsonia Black Pot Cook-Off

The Black Pot Cook-Off returns tomorrow, Saturday, June 12. Below is the schedule:

  • 10am-2pm: Check-in and Set up
  • 2pm: Cooking begins
  • 5pm: Casual Meet and Greet with Sequoia-Kings Canyon Superintendent Clay Jordan
  • 6pm: Dinner and judging

The chefs get to work at 2pm. Here are the rules and tips for the day. If Black Pot cooking is not your thing, you can still drop by during the afternoon to visit and take in the fabulous aromas, then come back over at 5pm as the cooking wraps up. The new NPS Sequoia-Kings Canyon Superintendent, Clay Jordan, plans to be in attendance for a very casual meet and greet. At 6pm, it’s your chance to sample all the masterpieces and vote for your favorite main dish and favorite dessert. If you're not cooking, please bring a potluck side dish or salad to help fill out the meal.

See you at the Wilsonia Community Park, on Hazel between Laurel and Lilac (the usual Black Pot location). Follow your nose to this fantastic event.

Yard Sale

Saturday at 10am, prior to the Cook-Off, Wilsonia Village will be holding a small yard sale at the Cook-Off location. The yard sale will feature a few special items as well as some donated items that have been accumulating at the Clubhouse. We will be accepting no more donations for this event.

If you are looking for a beautiful 7’ dining room table with 6 chairs, some bedroom end tables and dresser, and a king size mattress, those items will also be available to view.

Bear in Wilsonia
This fine looking black bear has been spotted in Wilsonia several times in the last two weeks. There have been no reports of trouble. Please help protect these beautiful animals by keeping all food inside and out of sight, and keeping your garbage securely inside until you can dispose of it in the bear-proof latched dumpsters.

Yard Clean-Up Day - June 26

This very important event in Wilsonia is just two weeks away. Many of you have been very active in trimming, clearing and raking fuels on your property. If you have already finished and hauled off your yard debris… thank you!

However, if you need someone to pick up your piles for you, or even need somebody to help rake your yard for you, please consider making a donation to the Wilsonia Yard Clean-Up Day fund. Your donation will help offset the cost of food for the volunteers and the rental expense for a few extra dump trailers.

We still need to hear from you if you need help or can help. Fill out this form to help us keep track of the clean-up projects and of the volunteers

If you have a truck and know how to pull and back-up a trailer, we need a few dedicated drivers. If you know a student in need of community service projects, this is a great opportunity to take care of 6-8 hours!

The fire safety of Wilsonia may very well hinge on how successful this Clean-Up Day is. Please help our community! Sign up and show up!

Musical Additions to the Wilsonia Village Calendar

Banda Liberdade do Vale (Valley Liberty Band) - July 3
Wilsonia welcomes the Banda Liberdade do Vale (Valley Liberty Band) on Saturday, July 3 from 2-4 pm. They are a Portuguese/American Band located in Central California. They were established in 2015, with 16 members from all over the San Joaquin Valley. They play a wide variety of music from all over the world and put on a fun and lively concert. Valley Liberty Band has performed at the Exeter Fall Festival, the Visalia and Tipton Portuguese Festas, Bullfights in Tipton, and love performing for assisted living and retirement communities where they have put on holiday and 4th of July concerts.

The band has been wanting to play in Wilsonia for many years. Their leader, Fernando Cunha, was a music student of Wilsonia cabin owner Janice Giddings. Janice’s son Robert Giddings (also a music teacher) is a member of the band.

Come hear Valley Liberty Band at 2pm on July 3. After the concert, the band and their guests have been invited to attend our potluck dinner at 6pm that evening. We ask that you consider “adopting a band member” by bringing extra food, drinks and place settings for our musical guests!

Roger Perry and Jeff Hallock - August 14
Wilsonia cabin owner Jeff Hallock will be performing with Roger Perry in the Wilsonia Clubhouse on August 14, beginning at 7:30pm. More information about this blues, rock, folk duo will follow in a later edition of the Wilsonia Times.

The Valley Liberty Band will be performing on July 3 at 2pm

A Taste of Wilsonia Tickets
Tickets are available now. Ticket reservations can also be made at the Black Pot Cook-Off on June 12. There will be a maximum of 100 tickets available. Tickets for this fundraising event can be secured for a $25 donation ($10 for children 12 and under).

In order to spread people out, we have created two dining times: an early shift that runs from 5:00-7:30, and a late shift that begins at 6:30. We will have maps, menus and some suggested routes available for ticket holders. A big thank you to all the cafe hosts and to all of you generous supporters of Wilsonia Village.
