      A Special Prayer for Ordinands

A special prayer for all our ordinands and their families this year and all those who have been called to ordained ministry in the years before.

Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer God,
who you call your faithful people into a life of service,
help us to nurture and hold in love
all those who are ordained at this time in the life of your Church.
Teach us your ways,
that we might recognise your Mission in the world,
your compassion in caring for others,
and your love deep within every human heart.
We ask this in your Holy Name,
as one undivided Trinity of love,
now and for evermore. Amen

Green Church Showcase

The Church Times, with the Church of England and Roman Catholic environmental working groups, are looking for inspiring church initiatives which protect the planet.

The selected projects will feature in a showreel, which will be launched at the COP26 climate talks in November, along with an accompanying booklet and online resources.

Submissions are invited from churches, schools and groups from all denominations. The showreel isn’t just about big projects, they want to hear about anything from ones involving young people at every stage to courageous advocacy or simple but effective gains on a shoestring. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 21 July 2021.

             Refresh Online 2021

Preparations are underway for the Refresh Online Ladies Day which will take place on 4 September.

It will be a time of good bible teaching, heartfelt worship, prayer and testimony (amongst other offerings). Organisers are encouraging people to watch this in clusters this year, with an open invite for men to join too.

More than 500 people viewed last year's Refresh Online content.

Reasons To Be Hopeful

Engaging Theology in Cumbria  is running a series of talks by theologians exploring hope and fear in mission, theological education, the arts, the climate crisis, education, and more.

These are a Zoom-based series of talks and group discussions that are inclusive, accessible, mission-focused, and, above all, hopeful.

  • The next takes place at 7.30pm on 14 June, as the Rev Paul Dunthorne, Principal of Cumbria Christian Learning, explores 'The Hope That Is within You: Hope from 1 Peter'.

To book please visit the Events Page on the ETC website and complete the form.

Shining A Light on Good News

Churches have the chance to secure up to £7,500 as part of Ecclesiastical Insurers annual competition which aims to showcase 'Good News' stories.

Churches are encouraged to demonstrate what is new, different or imaginative about their activity, as well as how it has helped the local community and whether it could inspire others to do similar.

Entries should be submitted in the style of a news article with an attention-grabbing headline and no more than 250 words in length. Photographs or videos are also encouraged to go along with the article to help show the impact of their initiative. Ecclesiastical will showcase some of the best entries on its website and social media channels.

Each entry is automatically entered into the regional competition where a panel of judges will each select a regional winner who will each receive a prize of £1,500 for their church. The overall national winner will receive a further £6,000. The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday 17 September.

Perfectly Pointless

Many congratulations to Church House administrator James Brunskill who scooped a £13,750 jackpot when he appeared on the hit BBC quiz show Pointless.

James was playing alongside his brother Philip, having travelled down to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood last December for filming.

The episode aired last week and in fact the brothers managed to post two pointless answers in the final round after choosing the topic  'the year 2018'.
