Honoring Juneteenth
The U.S. declared its independence on July 4th, 1776 but it wasn’t until the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 that enslaved Africans were freed. Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating this emancipation, was first celebrated by the African American community in 1865. This year, for the first time in our history, the Covenant is recognizing and honoring Juneteenth!
