Ban on Deferred Sales Charges
The OSC previously announced that it is moving to ban deferred sales charges (DSC) on mutual funds in Ontario.
On June 3, the OSC published local final amendments to NI 81-105, that prohibit the payment by fund organizations of upfront sales commissions to dealers, which will result in the discontinuation of all forms of the DSC option. Learn more

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is warning Canadians about participating in tax schemes where promoters are claiming that individuals can transfer funds out of their registered retirement savings plan (RRSP) or registered retirement income fund (RRIF) into a tax-free savings account (TFSA) without paying taxes and without regard to the annual TFSA contribution limit. OSC Rule 25-501 is based on, and consistent with, Multilateral Instrument 25-102 Designated Benchmarks and Benchmark Administrators (MI 25-102) of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). OSC in the Community is an outreach program that takes the OSC's regulatory mandate from Bay Street to Main Street. OSC staff travel to communities across Ontario to talk to people about making informed financial decisions and avoiding investment fraud.
