This week we have finally added some alternative kits and the pattern only option for Jane's Indian Roses blanket design to the web site. We had been holding out for Stylecraft Life DK to arrive to make up accompanying kits, but with no sign of all of the shades being available for at least another 2 months we have made up some kits using Special DK instead.
Special DK is 100% Premium Acrylic rather than the wool mix that Jane originally used in her design, but the shade swaps are almost identical and the yarn usage is pretty much the same.

Inspired by Jane's trips to India, the Indian Roses yarn pack was previously only available as a pre-packaged West Yorkshire Spinners kit. We have just one of the original kits left as some of the shades have now been discontinued.
With the release of the pattern back at the beginning of the year Jane created two new colourways using West Yorkshire Spinners yarns and one new colourway using Stylecraft Life DK. The yarn substitution documents for the new colourways can be downloaded for free via Jane's web site. You will still need to purchase the original pattern.
Of the two West Yorkshire Spinners colourways, the Aqua version (shown above middle) uses mainly ColourLab DK, while the Naturals colourway (shown above right) uses a mixture of ColourLab DK & Croft DK. We hope to have kits for these colourways in the forthcoming weeks.
With the difficulty we are having obtaining all of the shades for the Stylecraft Life DK version of the blanket (shown above left) we have made up a kit using like for like shades in Special DK.

We now have several kits for Jane's designs available in Special DK. All of these kits were previously only available in Life DK.
As we have said already, we have had problems sourcing all of the Life DK shades over the last 4-5 months and the situation looks set to continue for a few more months, so we have made the decision to use an alternative yarn. If this proves to be popular then we will make more designs available in Special DK over the next few weeks.
We have made up all of the kits with like for like yarn shade substitutions and, as there is only a 3 metre difference between the length of Life DK & Special DK, we have added the identical number of balls. We have not tested all of the designs for yarn usage using Special DK, so please be careful with your tension, especially if you are a loose crocheter.
