Clergy Renew Ordination Vows

Service "Bittersweet" and "Encouraging"
“It was an amazing day of worship for me,” said the Rev. Tripp Jeffords, Rector of St. Paul's, Summerville. “To see fellow clergy and laity all together, singing to the glory of God, gave me chills.”

“It was great to be back together,” adds the Rev. Canon Todd Simonis, Diocesan Canon for Church Planting, and Associate Rector at St. Helena’s, Beaufort. “You get used to seeing people virtually for so long it was great to be able to give them a hug.”

In his sermon, Bishop Lawrence reflected on the encounter between Elijah and Elisha in 2 Kings 2:1, 6-14 where prior to Elijah being taken up to heaven Elisha asks for a “double-portion” of Elijah’s spirit.

Update from the Bishop's Search Committee

The following excerpt is from an email the Search Committee Chair, the Rev. Jason Collins, sent to his congregation.

In May, the Bishop Search Committee interviewed the Nominees via Zoom.  This was an initial meeting to ask basic questions of the nominees that helped confirm that these godly men were indeed called to remain in the search process.  Those that remained in the process began an extensive and exhaustive series of background checks and physical and psychological evaluations to help verify that they have the mental and physical stamina required for the office of Bishop.

This June, the Bishop Search Committee will split up into smaller teams to go and visit the nominees in person.  There will be another round of interview questions that will be asked of the nominee and his spouse.  The teams will also see the nominee in their own “environment” and hear them preach.  At the end of June, the Search Committee will convene again and prayerfully decide which of the Nominees will be recommended to the Standing Committee to become a Candidate for Bishop Coadjutor.

Please continue to hold the process, the committee
and all involved, in prayer.

God Just Kept Calling His Name

A Pringle Franklin Interview with Matthew and Henrietta Rivers

His true love kept waiting...
For much of his life, the Rev. Matthew Rivers, Rector of St. John’s Chapel, Charleston, kept running from God, chasing after the good life. He knew God, but did not have a relationship with God. Even when God tried to answer his prayers for the perfect wife, the self-described "knucklehead" wasn't cooperating when she showed up. Watch and see how God led him to the wedding altar after more than 45 years as a bachelor.

Kenneth PadgettKenneth Padgett recently accepted a call to serve as the Pastoral Assistant at Christ the King-Grace, Waccamaw, Myrtle Beach.  Kenneth was born and raised in the South Carolina Lowcountry. He and his wife, Rebecca, (married 13 years) have two sweet daughters, Eisley (10) and Lyla (6). Kenneth served 11 years in the US Navy and Air Force.  He completed his undergraduate studies at The College at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts in Old Testament at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Kenneth is currently a PhD Candidate in Biblical Studies at Trinity College, Bristol (UK).

Patrick & Daniel WieberPatrick and Danielle Wieber recently started working as the Missions Interns at Christ the King Grace Waccamaw in Pawleys Island. Patrick and Danielle are both from Jacksonville, Florida. They became close friends in high school, and eventually reunited years later after Patrick completed four years in the United States Marine Corps and Danielle finished a college internship with the Walt Disney Company. They married in April 2019, and welcomed their first child, sweet Jane, in March 2020. For the last two years, they have been mentored and followed the call as full time NAMS Missionaries, to spread the Gospel of Jesus in Exmouth, England. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has placed their move across the pond on pause, but thankfully God’s ways are always higher. In their time at Christ the King Grace they will give close attention to children’s and youth ministries, gaining more experience for when God calls them overseas.
