The 3rd National Private Well Conference Was a Great Success!

Private Well Conference Held Virtually, May 25-27.

The 3rd Private Well Conference took place virtually from May 25-27. Private well professionals in attendance included drillers, federal agencies, state and local government, regulators, researchers, laboratories, cooperative extension, educators, and groundwater industry professionals. There were 174 attendees from 42 states at the three day virtual event. The conference included 19 presentations, a driller's panel, a laboratory panel, a flash mastermind event, and ten 5-minute lightning talks! If you missed the conference, we recorded all of the talks and expect to have the videos online by the end of summer.

We would especially like to thank our presenters and attendees for helping make the conference so successful!

This information can help scientists make management decisions to help us use groundwater more sustainably.

Improving state-level emergency well disinfection strategies in the United States
Northeastern University, Virginia Tech, LSU, & MSU

After flooding events, private well owners should disinfect their private well, yet well disinfection strategies are not consistently applied or proven effective. This study, from Northeastern University, Virginia Tech, Louisiana State University, and Mississippi State University, had a threefold purpose. The research sought to determine that disinfection procedures reduce the level of microbes in well water, review disinfection principles in emergency protocols, and explore research gaps that may hinder disinfection effectiveness.
