Summer Sermons: Life and Doctrine with the Apostle Paul
As a missionary and pastor to new Christians, the Apostle Paul was met constantly by Christians looking for practical guidance in their Christian lives. As he wrote letters urging the church in their life of faith, he often instructed them in doctrinal truth. He even urged, "Watch your life and your doctrine closely; persevere in them" (1 Timothy 4:16). Satan might tempt us to think that doctrine is not practical, but Paul shows us that growth in our understanding of the core doctrines of our faith not only gives us certainty for eternity, but it also provides a strong foundation for living in this world. As we look at the life and writings of Paul this summer, we will look for guidance in persevering in life and doctrine! This week, we will see how misunderstanding the Law has the potential to derail our lives right from the start.
