I am contacting you with a few brief messages and one sad statement.
New date for Vaccine Town Hall
One is to let you know that the Vaccine Town Hall has been postponed till next Thursday, so June 10th. It is the same time, same two MLAs, but a different guest speaker and a different date. The information regarding it, and the links to the Zoom page are below. BC Recovery Benefit
Also, one that is very important and very time sensitive is the BC Recovery Benefit. If you have not applied for it, or know someone who is eligible to apply for it and hasn't, the deadline is the end of June. The benefit pays up to $1,000 per eligible families, or up to $500 per eligible individuals. It is an income-based benefit that has to be applied for by June 30th. More information regarding the benefit is available here. If you have applied for the benefit and have not received it, please do not reapply but instead go to this link. It has answers to some common questions and hopefully yours will be there. If you still have questions, feel free to contact the office.
Minimum wage increase
And just as an announcement, the government raised the minimum wage in BC this week to $15.20 an hour. The new wage started on June 1st, and is part of this government's goal of raising the minimum wage to becoming a living wage. Since 2018, we have raised the minimum wage in BC from $11.35 an hour, to $15.20 an hour. BC had one of the lowest minimum wages in the country, while also being one of the most expensive places to live. We also removed the lower minimum wage for liquor servers. This lower wage impacted mainly woman and was discriminatory in its nature.

How does one even imagine a crime like this?
I must apologize in advance and for my delay in finding the words to respond to this, it is not easy to form words about the remains of children, especially when some of them were likely in school at the same time as me. This stuff is not ancient history - even if the photos in black/white would have you think otherwise. These children would be the same age of many of our compatriots, our political leaders, our teachers, had we not committed such acts of genocide.
Something to recognize as well is that these bodies do not come as a surprise to the survivors of these schools. It has been said many times, there are bodies of Indigenous Children all around these schools. This is just the physical evidence for those who try to deny this happened. This is real, it is awful and it is a National tragedy unlike any other.
We must commit to retelling the stories of these children, of the victims and survivors of this awful chapter of our history. If we hope to move forward, it needs to be with reconciliation front and center of everything. I will continue to support any efforts towards that cause, and any actions we need to take for mourning and healing.
I am so saddened by this.

Students were sent to the school from as far away as Penticton, Hope, Mount Currie, Lillooet and even outside the province.

NEW DATE
Virtual Town Hall: Vaccinations
Bowinn Ma MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and I will be hosting a Live Virtual Town Hall on vaccinations with a special guest from Vancouver Coastal Health. With the opening up of the vaccine registry for youth 12 and up, I am sure there are many questions and we are here to help answer as many as we can.
The live virtual town hall will take place on Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 6 PM – 7 PM and there are two ways to participate:

The Canadian Men’s Health Foundation is a national, registered charity providing information, tools, and motivation for men and their families to live healthier. This town hall is a chance to discuss and learn about coping with issues related to men and how to handle stress now during the pandemic and moving forward.
