The lake, the mountains, the town - Sandpoint is a summertime classic!

High time for summer fun

We're all set, so let's go!

Sandpoint's fun activities and events are back, and we couldn't be more thrilled to get summer going. Schweitzer opens for the season June 18, with scenic chairlift rides and a whole bunch of family-friendly activities such as hosted e-bike rides and a climbing wall (check 'em all out here). For those who would like to explore the lake, book a voyage with Lake Pend Oreille Cruises for an experience everyone in your group will appreciate. There are special evening cruises, chartered cruises, and the popular daily lake history cruise. And check out this month's featured event - the Sandpoint Summer Sampler coming June 24 at Farmin Park. Hosted by the Sandpoint Chamber, here's your chance to try a variety of food and drink samples from local restaurants. See you this summer!

A special evening of art

Residents and visitors look forward to the ArtWalk opening receptions, presented by the Pend Oreille Arts Council. The collaboration between artists, galleries, businesses, and community is a much-anticipated event, held this year on June 18 from 5:30 p.m. 'til 8 p.m. All ages are encouraged to browse the downtown streets and enjoy this special evening; it's free to attend, and there are maps of the walking tour available at venues on the night of the opening receptions. Exhibits remain on display for folks to enjoy through Sept. 3.

Big hike, close to town

There's nothing like getting to the top of the Mickinnick Trail - a challenging 7-mile round-trip trek that's a big workout, but worth the views at the top. The trail ends on a rocky knob commanding a view of Sandpoint, the Long Bridge, the Cabinet Mountains, and Lake Pend Oreille. If you're getting a late start, this trail is a good choice thanks to ts east-facing aspect.
Parking note: Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail users will need to park at the Windbag Marina or City Beach parking lots on weekdays this summer, as construction has closed the Sandpoint trailhead lot.

For those about to launch ...

Sandpoint salutes you, with a new and improved boat ramp and parking area at War Memorial Field. According to the City of Sandpoint, the new parking lot layout increased car parking stalls from 44 to 68, and boat trailer parking increased to 22 stalls. They're now set at a 45-degree angle for ease of entering and exiting. While the improved ramp and lot are now open, work will continue this summer on the non-motorized ramp and boat wash station.

New issue of Sandpoint Magazine is here!

Goats, folks, growth, dining - lots of great topics in the summer edition

The summer issue of Sandpoint Magazine is out, and it's looking like the Greatest Of All Time! Speaking of GOATs, the issue ranks right up there. From the cover story on the mountain goats of Scotchman Peak - itself northern Idaho's tallest mountain and a terrific day hike - to the history-making Sandpoint High graduate who is the nation's first female F-35 combat fighter pilot, the new edition goes high in more ways than one. Plus meet the amazing Flammulated owls, go trail building with the Pend Oreille Pedalers, read about the increased waterfront access coming for Ponderay, wrestle GNARly issues of growth here ... the list goes on.
