On 10th June PAPI, in partnership with Make It York will hold a free online Business Funding Roadshow event for B2B SMEs in York area to find out what grant funding and business support is currently available. The event will provide you with a single point of contact to enable you to access tailored support which is right for your business. Find out more and sign up
Join Make It York's next Connect Over Coffee event on 16 June over Zoom. Phill Monk from the City of York Council's Commercial Procurement team will share how the council sources contractors and suppliers, including tendering processes. You will also have an opportunity to give your comments and views on how you think it can be improved. York Business Week will be returning this year - with plans to hold a week-long programme of insightful and engaging events. Businesses are urged to have their say on what they would find most useful and relevant via an online survey – with feedback being used to help plan out the week’s content.

City of York Council and York St John University are conducting a survey to better understand how the pandemic is affecting people’s lives, businesses, and well-being in York. Answer the questionnaire on how people’s emotional and mental health are being affected and what services are needed to support business owners and the self-employed. Find out more
As part of My Castle Gateway, a Facebook live event is being held on the City of York Council Facebook page on 10 June at 5.30pm. Andy Kerr, Head of Regeneration at City of York Council, and Matt Costa, Landscape Architect at BPD will present an update and the design. Railway Industry Association (RIA) is launching the HS2 'Meet the Bidder' events for suppliers who are interested in working on two major HS2 contracts. The two contract opportunities are for 'Operational Telecommunications and Security' and 'Tunnel and Lineside (Mechanical and Electrical systems – M&E)'.

Garbutt + Elliott has launched its Yorkshire Food + Drink Awards 2021 which recognise and reward the region’s thriving businesses in the food and drinks industry. The awards aim to celebrate Yorkshire-based food and drink businesses that have continued to excel and shown resilience, adapting to the difficult economic conditions created by the pandemic. City of York Council is inviting York residents and businesses to have their say on a 6-week consultation on the ongoing examination of the city’s Local Plan. The consultation will ask for comments on additional evidence and modifications submitted since the ‘Phase 1 hearings in 2019’.

A new Covid testing centre has opened at St William’s College in York City Centre to further help the city’s efforts to keep York open and keep people safe. The site will offer in-person Covid testing seven days a week and will be open to visitors to the city – those working in businesses in the city centre and residents will not require a prior appointment. York-based Family Fund Business Services (FFBS) has won the Tech for Good Award in Social Enterprise Yorkshire and Humber’s 2021 Awards. FFBS received the award as a recognition of the way that their fulfilment Portal enables local authorities, housing providers and charities to support those in need across the UK quickly and easily. Last week we have celebrated the English Tourism Week 2021 under the slogan of 'Here for Tourism'. To show support for the industry, the new Lord Mayor of York Cllr Chris Cullwick and York Central MP Rachael Maskell have joined York’s Town Crier Ben Fry to open York Spring Fair.

York Gin has launched a brand new range of sustainable bottles - and the historical rebrand massively cuts their carbon footprint. The company’s new bespoke Yorkshire-made bottles weigh 40% less than the originals, and travel 20 just miles rather than 600 from the previous manufacturer in France.

Run For All, working in partnership with City of York Council to deliver the 2021 York 10K. The event will require the closure of roads and road junctions as well as the suspension of a number of Traffic Regulation Orders between 17:00 on Friday 30 July and 15:00 on Sunday 1 August.

A five-year, £5m project to conserve the medieval St Cuthbert Window has started at York Minster. The stained glass panels, will undergo painstaking cleaning and repair by the Trust’s conservators, with a selection going on display inside the cathedral as part of a new exhibition - Light, Glass & Stone: Conserving the St Cuthbert Window – opening in June.
