Hot hub site at Flowers Health Centre

We have recently been informed that the area at Flowers Health Centre that we have been using for the ‘hot hub’ site will be unavailable to us from 14 June as the network. This is understandably important as the practice continues its work on the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

As an immediate step we have secured additional space at Sloan Medical Centre so that we can keep the current level of cover. We recognise that this does mean in the short term, until we have identified a longer term solution, this will impact on patients accessing the hub. We are also reassessing the taxi provision and will stagger the individual GP start times to reduce any adverse impact with travel/arrivals.

We’re keen to ensure good geographical coverage, so we are already speaking with practices in the North Locality to find alternative sites as well as to get views about ongoing requirements for the ‘hot hub’ service. Please contact Chris Thornton (
chris.thornton@nhs.net) to let us know your views.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Flowers Health Centre for their support and of course the practice at Sloan Medial Centre for their flexibility.

IUD Follow Up letter

Following feedback in relation to management of patients presenting with complications post fit, we are providing some clear guidance to support practices in relation to this. This covers responsibilities for follow up treatment.

Research Information Sheet
Research into New Roles in General Practice

Can you help with research to understand how clinical supervision can support staff in new roles within General Practice teams?

Researchers are looking to interview paramedics and nurses that are undertaking Advance Clinical Practice training for General Practice settings, as well as GPs involved in providing debriefing/supervision. Findings will inform guidance and support for roles recruited via the NHS Additional Roles Re-imbursement Scheme (ARRS). Each interview will require up to one hour of a practitioners time.

All participants are eligible for an £80 gift voucher for taking part. Please click the links below for more information.

Attached is the latest breakdown of cold hub usage covering March to May 2021. This information is released as part of our contractual reporting requirements, but may also be useful to practices and networks in assessing their own usage. Of course, local circumstances vary, so if you would like some more detailed information, please contact chris.thornton@nhs.net

Additional Coronavirus Vaccination Clinics from 8 June 2021

Following requests from practices and PCNs for support in vaccinating cohorts 10-12 PCS has now been commissioned to provide additional Coronavirus Vaccination Clinics from 8 June 2021.

The CCG and PCS agreed these arrangements on 17 May, kick-starting an intense period of mobilisation, including the recruitment of vaccine centre staff.

Although the service has not been commissioned to undertake work to book or target specific populations, we are keen to work with the CCG, SCC and those PCNs who have decided not to continue with vaccination, to ensure the intended populations benefit.

Our initial focus needs to be on getting the service set up. Once we are established, understand the booking flows, and are confident the service comfortably fits in the payment per vaccine envelope, we will work with PCNs on initiatives to target their populations.

Anyone interested in working at the centre over the next 16 weeks (vaccinators, support staff and managers) should contact holly.reddish@nhs.net or call 07483 942623. The joint communication can be read in the link below.

Training for PCN staff: New dates added

Register below for free CPR and fire safety training sessions which are available to any PCN-employed staff. These sessions are provided by Primary Training Solutions.

We have added two new courses:

Health and Safety+ this session encompasses Health and Safety, Information Governance, Infection Control (non-clinical), and Moving and Handling (non-clinical) content. This newly-developed course offers the benefit of combining four mandatory training courses into one comprehensive session.

Moving and Handling Clinical (especially recommended for clinical staff) this course will be delivered face-to-face and provides an ideal approach to safer and more effective manual handling – not only meeting HSE recommendations, but also promoting good and safe practices in any situation.

Places are offered on a first-come first-served basis, however if your choice of date is fully booked please add your details to the waiting list and we will contact you if a place becomes available. This course will be delivered via the Zoom platform so all booked staff must have appropriate equipment (computer/laptop with microphone and camera)

Please note that we continue to offer the CPR sessions 'in person' in line with national guidance. These sessions will follow the government's COVID-19 secure guidelines in full.
