Regional Highlights:

GLOBE Student AndrewNews from NASA Goddard spotlights some of the amazing work being spearheaded by Rosalba Giarrantano as part of the GLOBE DEI Working Group. She has been involved in the development of the GLOBE DEI webinar series which seeks to increase visibility of underrepresented populations in science. In the Celebrate National American Sign Language Day with GLOBE Webinar, CCRI Educator Ambassador Jillian Anderson, and her students from Lexington School for the Deaf taught participants how to sign some frequently used GLOBE terms in ASL. One of the students that provided the webinar was then featured on NASA TV on May 19th asking a question to astronauts aboard the International Space Station - NASA Flight Engineer Shane Kimbrough and ESA (European Space Agency) Flight Engineer Thomas Pesqueta, during Expedition 65 Inflight Q&A with SciAccess and Ohio State University. This was made possible through a collaboration with SciAccess and our continued collaboration with Lexington’s High School Science Teacher and CCRI Educator Ambassador, Jillian Anderson. In the Lexington Schools Newsletter, CEO/Superintendent Russell O. West mentions the NASA GLOBE program that Lexington School for the Deaf provides as a unique opportunity for children to expand their horizons.

GLOBE Partners Elevate Citizen Science at CitSciVirtual and NASA CitSciCon

The GLOBE Program was launched on Earth Day, 1994 providing “students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment” (GLOBE, n.d.). As such, GLOBE is one of the first citizen science programs in the country. GLOBE Partners and community members continue to elevate this work every day. In the spring of 2021, 13 presentations were given by GLOBE Partners at the CitSciVirtual conference and the NASA CitSciConBRAVO contributors!
